    You can use the properties files in Remote Control to customize your environment, configure LDAP, set debug options, and set controller and on-demand target properties. The files can be edited in the BigFix® Remote Control Server UI.

Broker and Gateway upgrade fixlets fail

Learn how to troubleshoot if Broker and Gateway upgrade fixlets fail with MSI error code 1638.

Problem

The Broker and Gateway upgrade fixlets fail with MSI error code 1638 (Error code definition: "another version of this product is already installed").

Cause

This issue occurs while using an uninstaller that is for a lower/previous version than the version currently installed.
This issue occurs only in the scenario "CLI fresh install - upgrade fixlet".

Solution

Use the update fixlets only if you have used install fixlets to install Broker and Gateway on fresh installation.
Use the CLI for update, if you have used CLI to install Broker and Gateway on fresh installation.
