Additionally tracked contact fields

To supplement contact data collected during each mailing run, you can request that Unica track specific personalization fields to generate additional recipient-level contact tracking data. This feature is available only by request to Unica through the Unica Deliver Services team. Your request must include the specific personalization fields that you plan to use in your mailings. For information about how to make a request, see Your hosted messaging account.

After enabling this feature for your hosted email account, Deliver records the resolved values of each personalization field as additional contact tracking data in the local Deliver system tables each time you run a mailing.

For example, to track marketing email sent to customers in a particular geographic area, you might define a personalization field <UAEpf n="postal"/> and map the field to email recipient postal code data in your marketing database. You can then request that Unica use this personalization field for additional contact tracking. When you run the mailing, Deliver records the postal code in the Deliver system tables in the UCC_EnvelopeAttr table for the composite Audience ID.

After the mailing run completes, you can query the system tables to access the tracking data. For a summary of the information types available in the Deliver system tables, see About the Deliver system tables. For more specific information about the contents and structure of the Deliver system tables, see the Unica Deliver System Tables and Data Dictionary.

Personalization fields used for additional contact tracking do not need to appear in the email document referenced by the mailing. However, after Unica enables this feature for your account, each personalization field that you requested for contact tracking must be defined in the Output List Table (OLT) or mailing configuration for every mailing that you send. Define the personalization fields as follows.

  • OLT personalization fields must be defined in the OLT referenced by the mailing.
  • Constant personalization fields must be specified in the mailing configuration.
  • Built in personalization fields are pre-defined in the system. Deliver automatically provides the appropriate name and value.

The system will not begin a mailing run until you define the personalization fields or mailing configuration as required.
