Requirements for adding URL parameters for link tracking

When you request that HCL add custom URL link parameters, you must specify the name-value pair for each link parameter that you want to add to links in your marketing messages. You can specify a static text value or a personalization field.

Note: To avoid possible confusion, in your request to Unica, clearly indicate whether the additional parameter is a text value or a personalization field.

Specify each parameter, as follows.

  • Specify a name for the parameter.

    For example, name = mailing.

  • Specify the value to be used for the parameter.

You can specify a text value or personalization field. When you specify a text value, specify a character string. For example, SpringPromo or 32911. When submitting your request to Unica, indicate that you want to add the value as a static text value.

  • Indicate whether you want to use URL parameters only for test mailings.

If you request this option, the system does not add additional URL parameters to links in email that is sent in production mailings. The change affects all production mailings for your hosted messaging account.

  • Indicate whether you want to prevent the system from adding additional URL parameters for specific links.

Specify a unique character string that is part of the links that you want to exclude.

If you specify a personalization field, indicate which field to use. Parameter values generated from personalization fields are URL encoded. You must satisfy the configuration requirements for the type of personalization field that you specify.

  • If you specify an OLT personalization field, you must define the field in the OLT referenced by the mailing.
  • If you specify a constant personalization field, you must specify the constant in the mailing configuration.
  • If you specify a Built-in personalization field, the system adds the correct value, according to the field definition. Indicate the name of the field that you want to add.
