Listing attributes in the attribute dictionary

You can view all of the attributes that are contained within an attribute dictionary by opening the Attribute Dictionary-Attributes list view. Use the Attribute Dictionary-Attributes list view to display a list of the attributes and view details for a specified attribute, such as the description or data type of the attribute.

Procedure

  1. Open the Catalogs tool.
  2. From the explorer view filter, select Attribute Dictionary to display all of the attributes that are contained within the attribute dictionary in the Attribute Dictionary-Attributes list view.

The following attributes are displayed by default:

    PropertyDescription
Sequence The order in which the attribute is displayed. Numbers are displayed in ascending order.
Type An icon that represents the type of business object. Attributes can be predefined value or assigned value attributes. This field is read-only.
Code The unique identifier for the attribute.
Name The language-specific name of the attribute.
Data type The data type of the attribute. The following data types are available for attributes:
    • Text
    • Whole number

There is no underlying logic associated with this field; use the field as a custom check box to meet your attribute needs. This field is hidden by default.
Feature Pack 6 or laterUse in merchandising Feature Pack 6 or later
Select this check box to specify that this attribute can be used as a merchandising attribute in the creation of search conditions for use by any of the following objects:
    • Marketing activities for finding catalog entries to recommend to customers in e-Marketing Spots.

Feature Pack 8Merchandising attributes can also be used in search conditions within a marketing activity to identify a current page target.

    • Search rules for finding catalog entries.
    • Feature Pack 8Sales and rule-based categories for finding catalog entries to assign to the categories.
Only attributes with predefined values can be used as merchandising attributes. An attribute that is identified as for 'Use in merchandising' is intended for internal business use to create these rules and activities. By default, these merchandising attributes do not affect customer searches. If you set a merchandising attribute to be displayable, searchable, or for use in faceted navigation, then the attribute can appear on your storefront.
    Searchable

Feature Pack 6 or laterSearchable in storefront

Select this check box to specify that customers can search for this attribute on the storefront.
Important: You cannot remove an attribute from being searchable with Management Center by clearing the check box for the attribute property. When an attribute is specified as searchable, links are created for it throughout the WebSphere Commerce database and search index. For reliability and consistency, these links remain intact even when you clear the check box for making an attribute searchable.

Feature Pack 5 or laterYou can no longer clear the check box selection for making an attribute searchable after you select the attribute property.

To remove an attribute from being searchable, you must have an administrator reset the search links for the attribute in the database. For more information, see Resetting searchable attributes.

    Feature Pack 5Facetable

Feature Pack 6 or laterUse in faceted navigation

Feature Pack 5Select this check box to specify that the attribute can be used for displaying facets in the storefront left sidebar to filter product listings. Facets are created in the storefront left sidebar, enabling usable filters to target meaningful product results. The storefront displays a count for each facet value. This count indicates the number of products that share that facet value.

Feature Pack 6 or laterSelecting this check box also makes the attribute usable in the Search Criteria and Result target in marketing activities and search rules.

Important: When an attribute is specified as being used in faceted navigation, it is also specified as searchable in your storefront. Links are created for the attribute throughout the WebSphere Commerce database and search index. For reliability and consistency, these searchable links remain intact despite clearing the check box for making an attribute for use in faceted navigation. You cannot remove an attribute from being used in faceted navigation by clearing the check box for the attribute property.

To remove an attribute from being used in faceted navigation, you must have an administrator reset the search links for the attribute in the database. For more information, see Resetting searchable attributes.

If an administrator applies the interim fix for APAR JR47273, you can remove an attribute from being used in faceted navigation by clearing the attribute property selection. You do not need an administrator to reset the search links in the database.

Feature Pack 6 or laterThe interim fix is no longer needed to remove an attribute from being used in faceted navigation by clearing the attribute property selection.
