Active messaging and deleted recipient lists

When you delete a recipient list that is referenced by an active messaging, the system does not delete the list immediately. Instead, the system designates the list as a retired recipient list. When the messaging ompletes, Deliver deletes the recipient list, including the corresponding OLT and metadata in HCL Unica.

An active messaging is a messaging campaign that is currently processing messages, preparing to process messages, or waiting to process messages. For example, a messaging is considered to be active when it is sending messages, or when you pause the messaging. The messaging is also considered to be in an active state during the time the system is preparing to begin the messaging run.

A retired list remains available to the active messaging until the messaging successfully completes the messaging run. However, only the active messaging can reference the list or use it to create and send personalized message. On the mailing tab of the active messaging, the Recipients field changes to indicate that the recipient list is retired.

A recipient list is retired only temporarily. The system deletes the list as soon as active messaging that references the list becomes inactive. When the messaging completes and the system finishes deleting the list, the mailing tab changes again to indicate that no list is selected.
