Adding Sametime Video Manager Server sites

Configure IBM® Sametime® Video Manager sites as part of the Sametime Media Manager setup. A site typically corresponds to a local area network configured for a geographical location; for example, an office or manufacturing plant.

About this task

Note: A default territory has already been configured as part of the site topology and should be used for your deployment. At this time, multiple territories are not supported.

A site contains one or more network subnet, so a device's IP address identifies the site to which it belongs. A site's topology information logically describes the network and its interfaces to other networks. Site topology is used for selecting the nearest Sametime Video MCU for the moderator starting the conference. For example, assume there are two locations for an organization, Location A and Location B.

For Location A, the subnet ID is 9.1.1.0 and the mask length is 24. Create a new site A and add one subnet with these details. The subnet configuration allows a host address range of 9.1.1.1 - 9.1.1.254 and the Video MCU has an IP from this range. When a user from site A starts a conference, and has a device IP in the range of host address 9.1.1.1 - 9.1.1.254, a Video MCU configured for site A is selected for hosting the conference.

For Location B, there are 2 subnets, 9.2.1.0 and 9.2.2.0, and the mask length is 24. Create a new site B and add 2 subnets with these details. The subnet configuration allows host addresses in the range of 9.2.1.1 - 9.2.1.254 for subnet 1, and 9.2.2.1 - 9.2.2.254 for subnet 2. All clients can be part of subnet 1 and a Video MCU is part of subnet 2 (should have a IP address in range 9.2.2.1 - 9.2.2.254). When a site B user starts a conference, and has a device IP address in the range of subnet 1, a Video MCU configured for site B is selected to host the conference.

If a user who is not from site A or site B starts a conference, the Video MCU with the highest available capacity is selected.

Procedure

  1. Browse to the WebSphere® Integrated Solutions Console on the server hosting the Sametime System Console.
  2. Log in to the Integrated Solutions Console as the WebSphere administrator.
  3. In the navigation tree, click Sametime System Console > Sametime Servers > Sametime VMGR Servers.
  4. In the list of Video Managers, click the name of the Video Manager that you are updating.
  5. Click Configure the Site Topology.
  6. Click Add New Site.
  7. On the Sametime Video Manager Servers - Manage Site page, complete these fields:
    • Site Details
      • Site name - Enter a site name up to 128 characters.
      • Site description - Enter a site description up to 200 characters.
    • Bandwidth settings
      • Maximum bandwidth (mbps) - Mark the check box and specify the total bandwidth limit for voice and video calls. If this field is not selected, voice and video calls can use all available bandwidth.
      • Maximum bit rate (kbps) - Specify the per call bit rate limit for voice and video calls.
    • Territory Settings
      • Territory - Ensure this setting is set to Unassigned.
    • Subnet settings
      • IP address - Specify the subnet mask IP address.
      • Subnet mask length - Specify the subnet mask length in bits.
  8. Click OK.

What to do next

If you created a site in error and need to remove it, see the IBM Technote 404 Error from Sametime Video Manager might indicate multiple records in TERRITORY and TERRITORYOWNER tables of other nodes for instructions.

If you accidentally delete the default site, you can recreate it. See Recreating the default site after it was deleted
