The information contained in this section applies to IBM WebSphere Commerce Version 7.0.0.9 and Feautre Pack 8. The documentation also applies to all subsequent releases and modifications until otherwise indicated in new editions.
Developing
The topics in the Developing section describe tasks performed by an application developer.
Controller layer
The Controller layer is the conductor of operations for a request. It controls the transaction scope and manages the session related information for the request. The controller first dispatches to a command and then calls the appropriate view processing logic to render the response.
Integrating with back-end systems and external applications
External systems integration is a key feature of the WebSphere Commerce solution. In WebSphere Commerce business logic is enabled for integration and built-in adapters and interfaces are provided for common integration points. Additionally, the WebSphere Commerce integration solution leverages integration standards by using various IBM connectivity solutions.
Order and quote capture integration
The Order and Quote Capture Integration provides an open and extensible framework that supports outbound integration of WebSphere Commerce with a generic external system.
Order and Quote Capture Integration in Elite starter store
A site administrator can enable the Order and Quote Capture Integration features in the Elite starter store by publishing the sample EliteExternalIntegrationAddOn.sar file provided with this version of WebSphere Commerce.

Certain tasks and site pages in the Elite starter store undergo changes when the Order and Quote Capture Integration is enabled in the Elite starter store.
Checkout flows
Within the product checkout flows, the customer gets an additional option to create and submit quotes out of a shopping cart. Also, the customer needs to fill up the shipping and billing information separately on two pages.
Quote Confirmation
The Quote confirmation page displays after the customer clicks Create Quote on the Order Summary page. WebSphere Commerce makes an outbound request for quote creation to the external system. A quote number is generated in the external system and returned to WebSphere Commerce.

The Quote Confirmation page is not available in the base Elite starter store.

Similar to the Order Confirmation page, the Quote Confirmation page displays the shipping, billing, and product related information in a read-only format. It is recommended that the customer prints the Quote Confirmation page using the Print button.
