The information contained in this section applies to IBM WebSphere Commerce Version 7.0.0.9 and Feautre Pack 8. The documentation also applies to all subsequent releases and modifications until otherwise indicated in new editions.
Developing
The topics in the Developing section describe tasks performed by an application developer.
Controller layer
The Controller layer is the conductor of operations for a request. It controls the transaction scope and manages the session related information for the request. The controller first dispatches to a command and then calls the appropriate view processing logic to render the response.
Integrating with back-end systems and external applications
External systems integration is a key feature of the WebSphere Commerce solution. In WebSphere Commerce business logic is enabled for integration and built-in adapters and interfaces are provided for common integration points. Additionally, the WebSphere Commerce integration solution leverages integration standards by using various IBM connectivity solutions.
Order and quote capture integration
The Order and Quote Capture Integration provides an open and extensible framework that supports outbound integration of WebSphere Commerce with a generic external system.
Order and Quote Capture Integration in Elite starter store
A site administrator can enable the Order and Quote Capture Integration features in the Elite starter store by publishing the sample EliteExternalIntegrationAddOn.sar file provided with this version of WebSphere Commerce.
Order and Quote Capture Integration changes in the Elite starter store
Certain tasks and site pages in the Elite starter store undergo changes when the Order and Quote Capture Integration is enabled in the Elite starter store.
Checkout flows
Within the product checkout flows, the customer gets an additional option to create and submit quotes out of a shopping cart. Also, the customer needs to fill up the shipping and billing information separately on two pages.
Billing
The Billing page contains the Schedule Order and Billing sections as available in the Shipping and Billing Method page of the base Elite store. The Billing page also displays the shipping information, including inventory status, price, and all order calculation totals in a read-only format. These values are fetched from the external system using outbound web service calls so that the most current values are displayed to the customers before they enter the payment information.

Billing

The Billing page contains the Schedule Order and Billing sections as available in the Shipping and Billing Method page of the base Elite store. The Billing page also displays the shipping information, including inventory status, price, and all order calculation totals in a read-only format. These values are fetched from the external system using outbound web service calls so that the most current values are displayed to the customers before they enter the payment information.

Billing screen capture — Screen capture

In the base Elite starter store, there is a change flow option to display the shipping and billing information on the same Shipping and Billing Method page. This change flow option is enabled, by default, in the Elite starter store. During the publishing of EliteExternalIntegrationAddOn.sar, this change flow option is disabled. Hence, two separate shipping and billing pages are displayed to the customer.

Clicking the Next button displays the Order Summary page.
