Controller layer
The Controller layer is the conductor of operations for a request. It controls the transaction scope and manages the session related information for the request. The controller first dispatches to a command and then calls the appropriate view processing logic to render the response.
Integrating with back-end systems and external applications
External systems integration is a key feature of the WebSphere Commerce solution. In WebSphere Commerce business logic is enabled for integration and built-in adapters and interfaces are provided for common integration points. Additionally, the WebSphere Commerce integration solution leverages integration standards by using various IBM connectivity solutions.

When browsing the catalog in an Elite starter store with the Order and Quote Capture Integration enabled, the offer prices for specific items displayed on the Product Details and Product Compare pages are the values as available in the external system.

When browsing the catalog in an Elite starter store with the Order and Quote Capture Integration enabled, the offer prices for specific items displayed on the Product Details and Product Compare pages are the values as available in the external system.

The offer price values fetched from the external system are cached in WebSphere Commerce. If a value for the offer price of a product is available in the WebSphere Commerce cache, it is displayed to the customer; otherwise, a Get My Offer Price link is displayed. Clicking the Get My Offer Price link triggers an outbound web service call to the external system to get the required value.
