The information contained in this section applies to IBM WebSphere Commerce Version 7.0.0.9 and Feautre Pack 8. The documentation also applies to all subsequent releases and modifications until otherwise indicated in new editions.
Developing
The topics in the Developing section describe tasks performed by an application developer.
Controller layer
The Controller layer is the conductor of operations for a request. It controls the transaction scope and manages the session related information for the request. The controller first dispatches to a command and then calls the appropriate view processing logic to render the response.
Integrating with back-end systems and external applications
External systems integration is a key feature of the WebSphere Commerce solution. In WebSphere Commerce business logic is enabled for integration and built-in adapters and interfaces are provided for common integration points. Additionally, the WebSphere Commerce integration solution leverages integration standards by using various IBM connectivity solutions.
Order and quote capture integration
The Order and Quote Capture Integration provides an open and extensible framework that supports outbound integration of WebSphere Commerce with a generic external system.
Order and Quote Capture Integration in Elite starter store
A site administrator can enable the Order and Quote Capture Integration features in the Elite starter store by publishing the sample EliteExternalIntegrationAddOn.sar file provided with this version of WebSphere Commerce.
Order and Quote Capture Integration changes in the Elite starter store
Certain tasks and site pages in the Elite starter store undergo changes when the Order and Quote Capture Integration is enabled in the Elite starter store.
Checkout flows
Within the product checkout flows, the customer gets an additional option to create and submit quotes out of a shopping cart. Also, the customer needs to fill up the shipping and billing information separately on two pages.
Current Order
The Current Order page displays the items in the shopping cart. When the customer updates the order quantity for a product in the shopping cart, WebSphere Commerce cache is checked for the inventory availability of the product. Also, for the specified order quantity, the cache is checked for price information. If the inventory availability and price information for the specified quantity is not available in the cache, outbound calls are made to the external system to fetch these values.

Current Order

The Current Order page displays the items in the shopping cart. When the customer updates the order quantity for a product in the shopping cart, WebSphere Commerce cache is checked for the inventory availability of the product. Also, for the specified order quantity, the cache is checked for price information. If the inventory availability and price information for the specified quantity is not available in the cache, outbound calls are made to the external system to fetch these values.
