Templates

A template is an HTML file that creates the framework for a personalized email or hosted landing page. Templates typically contain elements and HTML tags specific to Deliver. Templates are identified separately within the Content Library.

In the HTML code of the template, you can apply custom tags to create the elements and features that are unique to personalized email and hosted landing pages in Deliver. For example, you can use a custom HTML tag to define personalization fields directly in an HTML template. You can use custom tags to configure zones that accept various types of manually dropped content in the Message Editor. Another custom tag can be used to add images, text, and HTML code by reference. Adding content by reference avoids the need add content manually in every communication that is based on the template. The custom tags are recognized only in the Message Editor and are ignored by web browsers.

Templates that are used to create text-only email must also be HTML files. Text-only templates must be HTML files to support the drag-and-drop functions available in the Message Editor.

When you upload an HTML file for use as an email or landing page template, you must clearly identify the file as a template file. The Content Library provides the Is Template option in the content element properties for this purpose. When you select Is Template, the system can recognize the attached HTML file as a template. Content elements that are used as templates appear in the Content Library as Rectangle with horizontal lines: template .
