Accessing files from HCL VersionVault Windows Explorer

The Views page in HCL VersionVault Windows Explorer provides access to the views that you create with the Join Project wizard or View Creation wizard. By default, VersionVault Windows Explorer places all base HCL VersionVault views that you own on the General tab of the Views page. For UCM views, VersionVault Windows Explorer creates a page for each project that you join and places views on the associated project page.

The title bar shows the location of the view in your computer namespace. Any command you issue from VersionVault Windows Explorer that requires a path uses the path displayed in the title bar.

To access other views and register a snapshot view from VersionVault Windows Explorer (for example, to access a team member's view), add a view shortcut to the Views page. You can add a view shortcut to any Windows® snapshot view that you can access through the Windows® file system. To add a shortcut to a team member's view, the view owner must make the root directory of the view a shared network resource. You cannot add shortcuts to a snapshot view created from a Linux or UNIX host.

Accessing snapshot views from Windows® Explorer

Because a snapshot view is a directory tree in a standard file system (plus some hidden, administrative files), you can access it as you would access any other directory tree in a file system.

Accessing someone else's snapshot view from Windows® Explorer

You can access someone else's snapshot view from Windows® Explorer as you would access any other directory on another computer. If the directory owner has shared the directory and set up the proper permissions, use My Network Places or Network Neighborhood to access the view.

Accessing someone else's snapshot view on Linux or a UNIX system

You can access someone else's snapshot view as you would access any other directory on another workstation. If you can access the other workstation and the directory owner has set up the proper permissions, use the cd command to access the view.
