Create an SMS communication

About this task

You can create a SMS communication in the Quick Builder. Perform the following steps.

Procedure

  1. Under Communication tab, in the New list, select SMS.
  2. Under the Properties tab, perform the following substeps.
    1. Under SMS Notification Name, specify an appropriate SMS notification name.
    2. Optional. Provide a description.
    3. To change the SMS communication location, click Change to browse and select the folder you want to choose . Click Save.
  3. Under Content, perform the following substeps.
    1. Under From list, select the SMS service provider.
    2. Under To list, select the personalization field which holds the mobile number of the user.
    3. In the Message body, click Add content from the library. You can directly type message content required if your SMS account is not under Indian DLT restrictions. However, SMS content can be placed centrally in content library and used to build a SMS communication as per a specific format even if your SMS account is not under Indian DLT restrictions.
    4. Under the SMS library, select the desired SMS template.
    5. Click Select. The SMS communication appears in the Message body.
      Note: In the right pane, the preview of SMS message is available. The SMS is uneditable.
      Note: You can also view the number of characters of your message. If it exceeds the maximum limit (160 characters), then operators charge message for multiple units. One unit in case of message exceeding 160 characters consists of 153 characters with 7 control characters to recreate message on target mobile device.
    6. To add the personalization fields in the message body, type # to get the personalization field drop-down list and select the required personalization field. You can type any letter of personalization field after "#" and the drop-down list is filtered on the basis of that.
      Note: To edit the personalization field, double-click the personalization field and select the appropriate field from the drop-down list.
    7. Click Add a short link to add a short link into your SMS message. You can specify any valid URL and select a brand in "Add a short link" window.
    8. Optional. Click Manage Field spaces to specify character length of each personalisation field used in your SMS message. This helps you to identify the approximate message length based on the typical length of personalization fields in your marketing database.
    9. Click Save & Publish.
