Column charts

You can use column charts to show data comparisons among items or data changes over a period of time. Data in columns or rows on a sheet can be transformed into a column chart.

In column charts, categories are typically organized along the horizontal axis and values along the vertical axis.

Column charts have two chart subtypes:
  • Clustered column clustered column
You can use a clustered column chart to show categories that represent the following types of data:
    1. Ranges of values (for example, months and seasons)
    2. Unordered names (for example, geographical names and people's names)
    3. Specific scale arrangements (for example, severity levels)
  • Stacked column stacked column

You can use a stacked column chart to show multiple data series and to emphasize the total. Stacked column charts show the contribution of individual items to the whole.
