Changing categories

You can change the information for a category, including code, name, description, images, and parent category.

Procedure

  1. Open the Catalogs tool.
  2. To change a category in the master catalog, from the explorer filter, click Master Catalog Categories. To change a sales category, from the explorer filter, click Sales Catalog Categories.
    WebSphere Commerce EnterpriseNote: If you are using the extended sites model, you can update categories if the master catalog category or sales catalog category belongs to the extended site store. You can change the asset store category only if you have access to the asset store.
  3. Find the category that you want to change.
  4. On the explorer tree, right-click the category; then click Open.
    The Manage Category tab displays in the work area.
  5. Optional: Expand the Object Properties section.
    This section is read-only and provides information if your company uses the following features:
    • WebSphere Commerce EnterpriseExtended sites business model
    • Workspaces
    PropertyDescription
    Associated store The store that the asset belongs to:
    • If workspaces are enabled
    • WebSphere Commerce EnterpriseIf your store is an extended sites store
    Change Made In The name of workspace, task group, or task, where the object is changed.
    Workspace The name of the workspace that the task is associated with. This field is read-only.
    Task Group The name of the task group that the task is associated with. This field is read-only.
    Description A description of the task. This field is read-only.
  6. Expand the General Category Information section. Complete the following information:
    PropertyDescription
    Code The language independent category identifier.
    Name The name of the category.
    Short description Type a brief description of the category.
    Long description

    Type a detailed description, if applicable.

    Keyword Type one or more keywords, which are separated by a comma and a space that describe the contents of the Web page. Some Internet search engines use these keywords to determine whether your page satisfies a search query. This field can be edited in multiple languages.
    Parent category (master catalog) The category to which an object such as a category, product, or SKU belongs, or the catalog to which a top category belongs.
  7. Expand the Display section. Complete the following information:
    PropertyDescription
    Display to customers Select this check box to indicate that customers can view this category in the storefront.
    Thumbnail Type the path to the thumbnail image and the name of the image, such as images/shirt.jpg.
    Full image Type the path to the full-size image and the name of the image, such as images/shirt.jpg.
  8. Click Save; then click Close.
