Granting user rights to a Windows user ID

The WebSphere Commerce installation wizard requires that the Windows administration user ID under which the installation is performed has the following user rights: Act as part of the operating system, and Log on as a service.

Procedure

Note: Granting these user rights to the Windows user ID is only required if you are completing a WebSphere Commerce custom installation.
  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy.
  2. Expand Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.
  3. For each user right that you want to grant to a user ID:
    1. Right-click the policy and select Properties.
    2. Click Add User or Group. To search for a user or group, click Advanced in the Select Users or Groups window.
    3. Click Find Now to display a list of users.
    4. Highlight the appropriate user and select OK.
    5. Select OK to grant the user ID the user rights.
    6. After you grant the user ID the user rights, click Apply, then click OK.
  4. After you grant the necessary user rights, log off and then log in as the same user for the updated user rights to take effect.
  5. After you log off and log on to the system, confirm that the user rights are in effect:
    1. Select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy.
    2. Expand Local Policies and select User Rights Assignment.
For each user right, the user ID displays in the Security Setting column.

If the system is part of a Windows domain, you can grant user rights by adding the user ID to groups that were granted the necessary user rights. You can add a user ID to a group in the Computer Management console. To access the Computer Manager console, select Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

If no groups were granted the necessary user rights, contact your domain administrator for information about granting the necessary user rights to a user ID.

    Notes:

The installation of WebSphere Commerce fails if the user ID under which the installation is performed does not have the necessary user rights.

Also, the user rights might not be assigned to an ID unless you log off and log back on again.
