Custom parameters

A custom parameter is a parameter that is in a format other than standard HTML parameters: GET and POST. For example, a custom parameter within the path or within another parameter. You must define them so that the scan can recognize, follow and manipulate them during scanning.

Custom parameters define a class of parameters; for example, shape is a class. You define custom parameters in the content scan job's Custom Parameter Definitions table on the Parameters and Cookies page. Parameters that appear in the Parameters and Cookies table are the specific instance of the class; for example, circle and square. You define specific parameters in the Parameters and Cookies table of the same page.

Each parameter that is discovered from a custom parameter definition is treated as a unique parameter during the scan. If the custom parameter matches a parameter in the Parameters and Cookies table, the scan will treat it as it is configured in the Parameters and Cookies table.

Note: Custom parameters overwrite standard parameters.
