Comparing files, directories, and versions

Diff Merge lets you compare up to sixteen contributors at a time (where a contributor is a single file, directory, or version).

Diff Merge selects one of the contributors to be the base contributor, which is the contributor against which all other contributors are compared. Wherever a contributor differs from the base contributor, Diff Merge marks that difference graphically. (For more information about the HCL VersionVault file and directory comparison algorithms, see the diff and cleardiff reference pages.)

Each contributor is displayed in a separate pane in the display, with the base contributor displayed as the left most or the topmost contributor, depending on whether the panes are arranged horizontally or vertically.

On Windows systems, if you are comparing HTML files, a browser pane is displayed above or below the contributor panes. This pane interprets and displays the HTML code in the currently selected contributor pane.
