Planning to deploy HCL Connections for AirWatch

The HCL Connections for AirWatch mobile app for iOS and Android includes support for AirWatch Mobile Server application management. HCL Connections for AirWatch is only for users whose company’s IT organization uses AirWatch for mobile device and application management. The AirWatch Agent app must be installed on the device to take advantage of its features.

Required components and recommended versions

The following components are required at the listed versions (or later):

  • Apple iPhone, or iPad running Apple iOS 8.4 or later
  • Android device running Android 4.x or later
  • HCL Connections for AirWatch mobile app, version 5.6.0
  • HCL Connections server for on-premises (version 4.5 or later) or HCL Connections Cloud
  • AirWatch Agent (latest available in Google Play or Apple iTunes)
  • AirWatch Admin console 8.2

Administration

HCL Connections for AirWatch application and mobile device security policies are configured and deployed by using the AirWatch console. Review your AirWatch console documentation for more information about deploying apps with AirWatch Mobile Server application Management. Note this is an AirWatch SDK capable application, and at points during the deployment process you must indicate that the application uses the AirWatch SDK for management.

It is best to define all security policies and settings for the HCL Connections for AirWatch app in your default security policies and settings for the Organization Groups, rather than in custom SDK profiles for the app. Testing with custom SDK profiles has shown unexpected results. The primary reason that you would use custom SDK profiles is to assign unique security policies to individual apps; however, the Connections app does not support custom SDK profiles.

To set app security policies and settings, navigate to your organization on your AirWatch administration portal, and click Groups and Settings > All Settings > Apps > Settings and Policies > Security Policies.

Restrictions

  • The AirWatch console administrative action Clear SSO does not have any impact on the HCL Connections for AirWatch app.
  • It is best to set Remove on Unenroll to Yes for the Connections for AirWatch app. If this setting is not enabled, after a manual data wipe, the application must be terminated before it can be used again.
  • When using iOS, push notifications for HCL Connections for AirWatch are supported only on Connections 5.0 servers or later. An iFix is required to make this operational, so contact HCL Support if this function is required.
  • HCL Connections Mobile for AirWatch on Android must be deployed from the AirWatch Agent app catalog. It cannot be side-loaded for the initial installation.
