Managing your community's ideation blog

When you add an ideation blog to a community, you can edit basic information about the ideation blog, change the access level of community members, and specify whether comments to the ideation blog are moderated. In addition, you can control ideation blog membership, hide the ideation blog, or remove it from the community. You can also manage your ideation blog to effectively control idea creation and voting.

Before you begin

You must be a community owner to manage an ideation blog. You must also be logged in to Connections.

About this task

If your community has an ideation blog, you can manage it from the community in a number of ways. For example, you can hide or remove the ideation blog, or update the membership of the ideation blog. You can also control idea creation and voting, and manage ideation blog settings.

Procedure

  • To edit basic information about the ideation blog, such as its name, description, tags, or time zone, select Community Actions > Edit Community on the Overview page and click the Ideation Blog tab.
  • To change the access level of community members to the Ideation blog, select Community Actions > Edit Community on the Overview page and choose one of the following access options:
    • Author. Allows members to post ideas to the ideation blog.
    • Draft. Allows members to save draft ideas only.
    • Viewer. Allows members to view ideas but not to contribute to the ideation blog.
When you first create an ideation blog, all members of the community are granted author access by default.
  • To add or remove an ideation blog member, you need to add or remove that person from the community membership.
You can add or remove members on the community's Members page. For more information, see Managing community membership.
  • To control idea creation and voting, select Ideation Blog from the navigation sidebar, and complete the following steps as needed:
    • When you decide that an idea has enough support from the community, select the idea and click Graduate. Graduating an idea means creating a community activity for that idea. Select OK to create an activity for the idea. For more information, see Working with community activities.
    • To remove an idea from the ideation blog, select Ideation Blog Actions > Manage Ideation Blog, and then select Ideas from the navigation sidebar. Select the idea that you want to delete, click Delete, and then click OK.
    • To stop new ideas from being added to the ideation blog, select Ideation Blog Actions > Stop Idea Creation. Users cannot contribute ideas but they can still vote for and comment on existing ideas in the blog.
    • To freeze the ideation blog, select Ideation Blog Actions > Freeze Ideation Blog. Users can no longer contribute new ideas, vote for, or comment on existing ideas.
    • To manage general settings for the ideation blog, select Ideation Blog Actions > Manage Ideation Blog, and update the settings as needed.
    • To export all of the ideas to a file, select Ideation Blog Actions > Export Ideas. The ideas are exported to a CSV file.

    • To move the ideation blog app up or down the Overview page, choose Move Up or Move Down.
    • To hide the ideation blog, choose Hide and confirm that you want to temporarily remove the ideation blog from the community.

When you are ready to resume ideation blog activity, select Community Actions > Add Apps and select Ideation Blog from the Hidden section of the app palette. All the ideation blog content is restored to the community.

    • To remove the ideation blog and all its content, choose Remove and complete the form that displays to confirm that you want to remove the ideation blog permanently.
