Deleting record types or families

You can delete a record type or family in a schema.

Before you begin

Before you delete a record type or family consider the impact to existing schemas, states, actions, hooks, and queries. For information see Naming restrictions.

About this task

You cannot delete the following record types:

  • Stateless system record types: ratl_replicas, history, attachments, groups, and users.
  • Record types added by read-only packages. For more information, see Applying package upgrades.
  • The Default record type. If you want to delete the current default record type, you must first assign another record type to be the default.

Procedure

To delete a record type or family:
  1. Start the Designer.
  2. In the Schema Repository Explorer view, expand the Record Types, Record Types - Stateless, or Record Type Families folder and select the item you want to delete.
  3. Right-click in the Schema Repository Explorer and click Remove.
  4. Click OK to delete the record type or record type family.

Results

Deleting a record type affects links to existing child records and references to the deleted record type name in hooks, scripts, and queries. All elements associated with the deleted record type must be updated.
