Installing Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect Version 9.5 or 9.6

Installing 64-bit Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect is the first step of installing the WebSphere Commerce Developer.

Installing Rational Software Architect instead of Rational Application Developer is also supported.

Before you begin

  • The following versions of Rational Application Developer are required for use with WebSphere Commerce:
    • For use with Java 8:
      • WebSphere Commerce Version 8.0.4.26 or laterRational Application Developer Version 9.6 or greater
      • Rational Application Developer Version 9.5 Fix Pack 2 (9.5.0.2) or greater
    • For use with Java 7:
      • Rational Application DeveloperVersion 9.5 Fix Pack 1 (9.5.0.1) or greater

For more information on the supported versions of companion software for WebSphere Commerce version 8, see Recommended software, fixes, and settings for WebSphere Commerce Version 8.0.

  • If you are installing Rational Application Developer, ensure that you install the copy of Rational Application Developer that is bundled with WebSphere Commerce. Obtaining Rational Application Developer separately results in a trial version that requires the purchase of a license.
  1. If you do not have the Rational Application Developer software, then download the eAssembly as well as any required fix pack level. You can obtain fix packs for Rational Application Developer directly from IBM.

  2. Extract the files.
  3. Prepare the product for installation:
    1. Start Installation Manager.
    2. In the top menu, click File > Preferences.
    3. Select Repositories.
    4. Click Add repository...
    5. Click Browse and add the necessary repository files from the packages that you extracted.
    6. Select the Search service repositories during installation and updates option. This option finds newer maintenance packages that you can choose to install at the same time.
      Tip:
      • When you are selecting which packages to install in the IBM Installation Manager, click Check for other Versions, Fixes, and Extensions to find the latest fix pack. You can then install Rational Application Developer and the latest fix pack together in one process.
      • During the installation, you might encounter warning messages about missing disks. You can continue with the installation and specify the disk location later in the installation process.

Procedure

  1. Follow the appropriate product documentation to install Rational Application Developer.
    Attention:
    • When you get to the Location panel during installation, ensure that you select the 64-bit architecture. WebSphere Commerce supports 64-bit architecture only.
    • During the installation, a Shared Resources Directory is also created, unless you already have a shared directory from a previous installation of a Rational product. If you are prompted to specify a shared directory, enter a short directory name, such as C:\IBM\IMShared, or use the default shared directory that is specified by the IBM Installation Manager.

The installation operation creates an Installation Directory. Do not accept the default installation path. Specify a short directory name, such as C:\RAD95\SDP. The default installation path is too long for configuration with WebSphere Commerce Developer.

Do not use a directory that contains periods ("."), spaces, or dollar signs ("$") in the directory names.

    • Do not select Create a profile on the Configuration for IBM WebSphere Application Server panel.
    • If you are installing Rational Application Developer, when you get to the Features panel, ensure that the following tools are selected. You can select other tools if needed.
      • Web and Mobile developer tools
        • AJAX, Dojo, and HTML
        • Dojo Toolkit libraries
        • JSP and servlet
      • Enterprise developer tools
        • Data access
Note: Not selected by default. Ensure that you select the Data access option.
        • Java EE and web services
        • SIP
        • OSGi Application
        • XML
Note: Not selected by default. Ensure that you select the XML option.
      • Code quality tools
        • Code Analysis
        • Line level code coverage
        • Test and performance tools
      • Server tools
        • WebSphere Application Server classic 8.5
Note: If you are installing Rational Application Developer V9.5 (not 9.5.0.2 or later), then the option is WebSphere Application Server 8.5.
          • Development tools
    • If you are installing Rational Software Architect, when you get to the Features panel, ensure that the following tools are selected. You can select other tools if needed.
      • Code development and quality tools
        • Data tools
      • Extension for SOA and WebSphere
        • Enterprise developer tools
          • Java EE and web services

            • Development tools
    • WebSphere Application Server V8.5 Liberty features (such as Liberty Core and Liberty Profile tools) are not needed.
  2. If you plan on creating WebSphere Commerce services, then install the Java Emitter Template (JET) package after you finish installing Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect.
If you did not install the latest fix pack during the initial installation of Rational Application Developer, then complete the following step.
  1. Install the latest fix pack for Rational Application Developer.
  2. Update the JAVA_HOME environment variable to include the following path.
    RAD_installdir/jdk
    For example, C:\SDP\jdk
  3. WebSphere Commerce Version 8.0.4.26 or laterIf you are upgrading to Rational Application Developer 9.6 for use in your development environment, you must run the migrateTo96 utility script.
    1. Open a command prompt, and navigate to the WCDE_installdir/bin/ directory.
    2. Run the migrateTo96 utility script by pointing it to your Rational Application Developer installation directory.
      ./migrateTo96.bat RAD_install_dir
      Where:
      RAD_install_dir
Your Rational Application Developer installation directory.
      For example:
