The documentation also applies to all subsequent releases and modifications until otherwise indicated in a newer section.WebSphere Commerce is a single, unified e-commerce platform that offers the ability to do business directly with consumers (B2C), directly with businesses (B2B), and indirectly through channel partners (indirect business models). WebSphere Commerce is designed to be a customizable, scalable, and high availability solution that is built to leverage open standards. It provides easy-to-use tools for business users to centrally manage a cross-channel strategy. Business users can create and manage precision marketing campaigns, promotions, catalog, and merchandising across all sales channels.

Installing WebSphere Commerce Developer
This section describes how to install and configure WebSphere Commerce Developer. WebSphere Commerce Developer is a test environment for developers or system administrators to develop stores and WebSphere Commerce application code.

Installing WebSphere Commerce Developer
You can install WebSphere Commerce Developer silently, or by using the IBM Installation Manager GUI.
Changing the development database type by using the setdbtype command
After you install WebSphere Commerce Developer, the development environment is configured to use the Apache Derby database. If needed, you can change the database type to DB2, Oracle, or back to Apache Derby, by running the setdbtype command. Ensure that the database that you are switching to exists in your network. Changing development database types does not carry over any schema customizations or custom data to the new database.

The initial installation of WebSphere Commerce Developer provides WebSphere Commerce Developer with Apache Derby. You can reconfigure your environment to use a DB2 database.
Upgrading to IBM Db2 Version 11.1
You must be on WebSphere Commerce Developer Version 8 Mod Pack 1 (8.0.1.0) or later if you want to use an IBM Db2 Version 11.1.x database.

WebSphere Commerce Version 8.0.1.0 or later

Upgrading developer environments to use IBM Db2 Version 11.1

You must be on WebSphere Commerce Developer Version 8 Mod Pack 1 (8.0.1.0) or later if you want to use an IBM Db2 Version 11.1.x database.

Note: IBM Db2 Version 11. includes new optimization and has different performance characteristics designed to support high load environments with high concurrency.

Before you begin

Ensure that you are on WebSphere Commerce Version 8 Mod Pack 1 (8.0.1.0) or later. If you need to upgrade to a higher Mod Pack, see Installing maintenance package for WebSphere Commerce.

Procedure

Install IBM Db2 or upgrade your existing database to IBM Db2 Version 11.1 by following the steps in the IBM Db2 documentation.

Run the setdbtype command to point WebSphere Commerce Developer to your new Version 11.1 database.
