Creating a view

Views are typically created by users. The process is simple, can be automated by GUIs on all supported operating systems, and does not usually require administrative intervention. In some cases, an administrator may be responsible for creating shared views or for establishing policies that govern view creation.

About this task

Network accessibility requirements for dynamic view storage depend on the view host platform.
  • On Linux or the UNIX system hosts, the partition where the view storage location is created must be exported so that clients running Linux or the UNIX system can mount it.
  • On Windows® hosts, the directory (folder) must be shared. For more information, see Windows shares for VOB and view storage.

These requirements apply only to dynamic views. Storage directories for snapshot and Web views do not have to be shared. For more information about creating views, see the mkview reference page.
