Preview of personalization fields used in scripts

You preview personalization fields that are present in the script by observing their appearance and behavior when you preview them in the Message Editor. To generate an accurate preview of the personalization fields, configure the related mailing, refresh the OLT, and provide sample data for the fields to display. You define sample data for the fields in the Message Editor preview.

To preview personalization fields that are used in a script, do the following.

  • Verify that the OLT that defines the fields declared in the script and the document that contains the scripts and are referenced to the same mailing.
  • Verify that all personalization fields declared in the script are created in the OLT referenced by the mailing and in the Deliver configuration. Review the personalization field properties in Deliver Settings.
  • If the script declares OLT personalization fields, run the associated flowchart to upload the latest recipient data.
  • Configure sample data for personalization fields in the Message Editor preview of the document that contains the script, or in the Deliver configuration. Confirm that the data type of the sample data is the same type that the script expects when it runs. You can change the designated data type if necessary.

To display a preview of a personalization field in the Message Editor, Deliver must know the sample value that is defined for the field and the data type of the personalization field. Deliver can access the information that is required to validate and preview the personalization field only after you reference the document that contains the script and the OLT that defines personalization fields to the same mailing.

The personalization field and its sample data must be the same data type. The Deliver process that is used to define the OLT identifies the data type for each personalization field. You can view and configure data type and sample data as personalization field properties in the Deliver Settings.

In the preview of the document, change the sample data for individual personalization fields to observe changes in conditional content that is rendered by the script.
