Working with advanced email scripts

You can add advanced scripts directly into an HTML document used as the template for a personalized email. Templates for text-only email in Deliver are also HTML documents that accept advanced scripts for email. The script syntax includes several tags and elements used exclusively with Deliver.

In a script, you reference personalization fields defined in an output list table (OLT) that provides the various recipient characteristics that the script evaluates. The script can operate on the values contained in the OLT only when you add the script to a document and reference both the document and the OLT to the same Deliver mailing.

You can use the same script in different situations. Use the script with different email communications or with a different OLT. However, if you use the script with more than one OLT, confirm that each OLT provides data for all of the personalization fields defined in the script. It is also a good practice to confirm that conditional content provided by the script is suitable for the document to which you have added the script.
