Installing DB2 on AIX, Linux or Windows

IBM® Sametime® on AIX®, Linux™ or Windows™ requires the use of an IBM DB2® server. Databases store information about users, Sametime servers, configuration settings, and meetings.

About this task

DB2 must be installed before you begin installing Sametime servers.

Procedure

  1. On the computer where you will install DB2, log on as root (AIX or Linux) or as the system administrator (Microsoft™ Windows).
  2. Download DB2.
Note: When choosing a version of DB2 to download, note that Sametime only provides a Workstation license. Unless you have a separate license for DB2, choose the Workstation install and apply the License file from Passport Advantage® after you have installed DB2.
  3. Extract all downloaded packages.
  4. From the directory where you extracted the packages, navigate to the appropriate directory for your operating system:
    • Windows: WSER\image
    • AIX and Linux: \server
  5. Start the installation program by running the following commnad:
    • Windows: setup.exe
    • AIX and Linux: ./db2setup
  6. From the launchpad, click Install a Product.
  7. Find DB2 Workgroup Server Edition Version 10.5 and click Install New.
  8. At the Welcome page, click Next.
  9. Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.
  10. Select Typical as the installation type and click Next.
  11. Select Install DB2 Workgroup Server Edition on this computer and click Next.
  12. For the installation directory, change the directory to the following case sensitive path and click Next.

    (AIX and Linux)/opt/IBM/db2/V10.5

    (Windows) C:\IBM\SQLLIB

Note: As a best practice in Windows installations, do not install DB2 and Sametime files into a directory path that includes the Program Files directory. The space in the Program Files directory name causes problems running some scripts.
  13. (Windows) Specify the following directory for the SSH Server installation.

    C:\IBM\IBM SSH Server

Select Autostart the IBM SSH server at system startup and click Next.

  14. Select Local user or Domain User account and complete one of the following according to your operating system:
    • (Linux) - Enter the requested user name, password, and then confirm the password for each of these:
      • Administrator user name: db2_admin_user_name
      • Instance owner - user who will create the database
      • Fenced user - user without privileges, not used by Sametime.
Note: The fenced user is not used by Sametime but you must supply the user name and password, and then confirm the password.
    • Windows or AIX (not Linux)
      • Domain: None (use local user account)
      • User name: db2_admin_user_name
      • Password: specify_password
      • Confirm password: confirm_password
Make a note of the user name and password you choose. You will need this information to install Sametime servers.
Important: Use only alphanumeric characters for the user name and password; other characters might cause errors.
  15. Select Use the same account for the remaining DB2 services and click Next.
  16. Leave the default selection for Configure DB2 instances and click Next.
  17. Clear the checkbox for Set up your DB2 server to send notifications and click Next.
  18. If you are installing on Linux, skip this step and proceed to step 20. Select Enable operating system security and enter the following values:
    • DB2 Administrators, Group name: DB2ADMNS
    • DB2 users group, Domain: None - use local group
    • DB2 users group, Group name: DB2USERS
  19. Click Next.
  20. Review the summary, then click Install to start the installation.
  21. When installation is complete, click Finish.
  22. Install DB2 10.5 which is required for use with 9.0.1.
