Installing DB2 on AIX, Linux or Windows
IBM® Sametime® on AIX®, Linux™ or Windows™ requires the use of an IBM DB2® server. Databases store information about users, Sametime servers, configuration settings, and meetings.
About this task
DB2 must be installed before you begin installing Sametime servers.
Procedure
- On the computer where you will install DB2, log on as root (AIX or Linux) or as the system administrator (Microsoft™ Windows).
-
Download DB2.
Note: When choosing a version of DB2 to download, note that Sametime only provides a Workstation license. Unless you have a separate license for DB2, choose the Workstation install and apply the License file from Passport Advantage® after you have installed DB2.
- Extract all downloaded packages.
-
From the directory where you extracted the packages, navigate to the appropriate directory for
your operating system:
- Windows: WSER\image
- AIX and Linux: \server
-
Start the installation program by running the following commnad:
- Windows: setup.exe
- AIX and Linux: ./db2setup
- From the launchpad, click Install a Product.
- Find DB2 Workgroup Server Edition Version 10.5 and click Install New.
- At the Welcome page, click Next.
- Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.

(Windows) C:\IBM\SQLLIB
Note: As a best practice in Windows installations, do not install DB2 and Sametime files into a directory path that includes the Program Files directory. The space in the Program Files directory name causes problems running some scripts. - (Windows) Specify
the following directory for the SSH Server installation.
C:\IBM\IBM SSH Server
Select Autostart the IBM SSH server at system startup and click Next.
- Select Local user or Domain User account and
complete one of the following according to your operating system:
- (Linux) - Enter the requested user name, password, and
then confirm the password for each of these:
- Administrator user name: db2_admin_user_name
- Instance owner - user who will create the database
- Fenced user - user without privileges, not used by Sametime.
Note: The fenced user is not used by Sametime but you must supply the user name and password, and then confirm the password. - Windows or AIX
(not Linux)
- Domain: None (use local user account)
- User name: db2_admin_user_name
- Password: specify_password
- Confirm password: confirm_password
Make a note of the user name and password you choose. You will need this information to install Sametime servers.Important: Use only alphanumeric characters for the user name and password; other characters might cause errors. - (Linux) - Enter the requested user name, password, and
then confirm the password for each of these:
- Select Use the same account for the remaining DB2 services and click Next.
- Leave the default selection for Configure DB2 instances and click Next.
- Clear the checkbox for Set up your DB2 server to send notifications and click Next.
