Installing DB2 Net Search Extender on AIX, Linux or Windows

IBM® DB2® Net Search Extender is required for deployments that include the Sametime® Advanced Server.

Before you begin

DB2 10.5 must be installed on the DB2 server before you install Net Search Extender 10.5.

Procedure

  1. On the computer where you installed DB2, log on as root (AIX® or Linux™) or as the system administrator (Microsoft™ Windows™).
  2. Stop all DB2 services.

For example, on Windows, stop the DB2 services by completing the following steps:

    1. On a computer where the DB2 server is installed, navigate to Start > Run.
    2. Enter services.msc and click Open.
    3. Right-click DB2 Management Service and select Stop.
    4. Right-click DB2 Remote Command Server and select Stop
    5. Right-click DB2DAS – DB2DAS00 and select Stop
    6. Right-click DB2 – DB2COPY1 – DB2 and select Stop
  3. Find the software packages you need to download.
  4. Download the packages.
  5. Extract all downloaded packages.
  6. Install DB2 Net Search Extender 10.5 as described in the DB2 information center.
  7. (Linux) Create a common secondary group for the instance owner and the fenced owner, so that those users can manage Net Search Extender on the DB2 server.
If you used default user names, the two users and their groups are as follows:
    • user: db2inst1

      groups: db2iadm1, dasadm1

    • user: db2fenc1

      groups db2fadm1

To create a common group, one method is to run the following command while logged in as root: usermod -a -G dasadm1 db2fenc1

  8. Start the DB2 server and make sure that all services that you previously stopped are started again.
  9. Start Net Search Extender.

In Windows you can enable automatic start for Net Search Extender by completing the following steps:

    1. From the Windows Services panel, right-click the DB2EXT – DB2COPY1 – DB2 service.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Change the startup type to Automatic.
