Installing WebSphere Network Deployment

Use IBM® Installation Manager to install IBM WebSphere® Network Deployment 64-bit server with the Full profile.

About this task

For more information about installing WebSphere Network Deployment, see Installing the product on distributed operating systems using the GUI in the WebSphere product documentation.

Procedure

  1. On the computer where you will install WebSphere Network Deployment, log on as root (AIX® or Linux™) or as the system administrator (Windows™).
  2. Find the software packages you need to download.
Note: Be sure to install the appropriate level of fix pack as well as the base product. For details on required product versions, see the Sametime System Requirements. Fix packs for WebSphere products are available at IBM Fix Central.
  3. Download the packages.
  4. Extract all downloaded packages (WebSphere Network Deployment 8.5.5 plus Fix Pack 14).
    1. Extract the contents of all three WASND_8_5_5 files to the same folder:
      • WASND_v8.5.5_1of3.zip
      • WASND_v8.5.5_2of3.zip
      • WASND_v8.5.5_3of3.zip
The contents of the folder will look similar to the following example:
      \disk1
      \disk2
      \disk3
      \lafiles
      \readme
      \ Remote_Installation_Tool_for_IBM_i
      \ responsefiles
      Copyright.txt
      repository.config
    2. Extract the contents of both 8.5.5-WS-WAS-FP0000008 files into a different folder to avoid confusion.
      • 8.5.5-WS-WAS-FP0000011_part1.zip
      • 8.5.5-WS-WAS-FP0000011_part2.zip
The contents of the folder look similar to the following example (fix pack versions and dates will differ):
      \atoc
      \files
      \native
      \Offerings
      \plugins
      repository.config
      repository.xml

Note: If the package contains part number CIQ6JML "IBM WebSphere V8.5.5.0 iFixes for IBM Sametime V9.0" you do not need it, because Fix Pack 11 is cumulative.
  5. Install IBM Installation Manager.
  6. If Installation Manager is not running already, start it now:
    • AIX or Linux: Open a command window and change to the location where you installed Installation Manager. The default location is /opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse.

Start Installation Manager by running the following command: ./launchpad.sh

    • Windows: Click Start > All Programs > Installation Manager > Installation Manager.
  7. Set the repository location to point to the repository.config file for each of the directories where you extracted WebSphere Network Deployment packages.
    1. In the Installation Manager window, click File > Preferences.
    2. On the Preferences page, click Repositories.
    3. Add the repository for the base WebSphere Network Deployment package by completing the following steps:
      1. On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.
      2. On the Add Repository page, click Browse.
      3. On the Select Repository page, browse to the location where you stored the extracted files for WebSphere Network Deployment, and locate the repository.config file in the top-level directory.
      4. Click the repository.config file to select it, and then click Apply.
    4. Leave the Repositories page open for the next step.
    5. Click OK.
  8. Add the repository for each WebSphere Application Server interim fix.
Note: Sametime 9.0.1 requires you to update WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5 to fix level 8.5.5.11. Use the fix pack that you downloaded and extracted.

Each fix contains its own repository.config file. You do not have to extract the .zip file for each fix and browse to the repository.config file; pointing to the .zip file is sufficient.

    1. Add the repository for each fix by completing the following steps:
Note: Locate and select the repository.config file for each fix that you are applying.
    2. Click OK.
  9. Still on the Repositories page, click Check Search service repositories during installation and updates to enable Installation Manager to locate fixes and install them in addition to the base package.
  10. Back in the main Installation Manager window, click Install.
  11. Select IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment 8.5.5, and then click Next.
  12. Select all of the fixes to install, and then click Next.
  13. Accept the terms in the license agreements, and click Next.
  14. On Windows only, correct the shared resources directory, and click Next.

By default, Installation Manager will select the C:\Program Files (x86)\IMShared directory but the space in that name causes problems in WebSphere. For best results, remove "Program Files" from the path: C:\IBM\IMShared

  15. Verify or correct the installation directory according to platform as described here, and then click Next.

On Windows, by default, Installation Manager selects the C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer directory but the space in that name causes problems in WebSphere. For best results, remove "Program Files" from the path: C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer.

On AIX, the path defaults to /usr/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer. For best results, change the path to /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer

  16. Select a language, and then click Next.
  17. Select the feature set to install, and then click Next:
    1. Expand the IBM WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment 8.5.5 feature set.
    2. Verify that WebSphere Application Server Full Profile is selected. The Liberty profile is not supported in this release.
    3. Verify that IBM 64-bit WebSphere SDK for Java is selected. Do not select IBM 32-bit WebSphere SDK for Java.
    4. For a new installation, select Java V6. Sametime requires Java V6 and does not support the use of Java V8.
  18. Review the summary information, and click Install.

Provide locations for the rest of the extracted WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment installation packages if you are prompted to do so.

  19. At the end of the installation, click None when prompted to select a profile configuration tool, and then click Finish.

The profile will be created for you during installation of the Sametime product.

If the WebSphere Customization Toolbox launches, close it.

  20. When the installation is complete, close Installation Manager by clicking File > Exit.

What to do next

If you installed with a profile as described in the previous steps, you can back up the WebSphere Application Server in case you need to restore it later. For information, see the topic Backing up server configuration from a WebSphere Application Server in the WebSphere product documentation.
