Deploying
IBM® Sametime® consists of a variety of servers and clients, and can be deployed to suit many different environments. The deployment instructions are organized by feature set, beginning with the minimum components that are necessary to support instant messaging, and then expanding the deployment to include features such as audio and video support, and conferencing.
Deploying instant messaging
Instant messaging features are provided primarily by the IBM® Sametime® Community Server, which supports presence, text chats, and two-way phone calls.
Deploying Sametime® Community Server to support external users
If your IBM® Sametime® deployment will support users hosted outside of your organization's intranet, you have several options for deploying and configuring the Sametime Community Server to support those users.
Tunneling through the firewall when SSL is enabled
Configure an IBM® Sametime® server to allow clients to tunnel through a firewall when SSL is enabled.
Binding the base DNS to the HTTP server
Before assigning an additional IP address to an IBM® Sametime® Community Server, avoid potential conflicts by binding the server's base DNS to the HTTP server where it listens for communications. This ensures that the IBM Domino® server hosting Sametime (and using this HTTP server) still receives all communications intended for it.

Binding the base DNS to the HTTP server

Before assigning an additional IP address to an IBM® Sametime® Community Server, avoid potential conflicts by binding the server's base DNS to the HTTP server where it listens for communications. This ensures that the IBM Domino® server hosting Sametime (and using this HTTP server) still receives all communications intended for it.

About this task

Bind the server's base DNS to the HTTP server by completing the following steps:

Procedure

Log in to the Integrated Solutions Console as the WebSphere administrator.
Click Sametime System Console > Sametime Servers > Sametime Community Servers.
In the Sametime Community Servers list, click the name of the Community Server that you want to update.
Click Configuration > Connectivity > Networks and Ports.
On the "Networks and Ports" page, click Configure HTTP services on a web page in its own window.
Locate the Host name field.
Type the base DNS for the HTTP server (for example: sametime1.example.com).
Still in the same field, type a comma and the following IP address: 127.0.0.1 so it looks like this:

sametime1.acme.com,127.0.0.1
```
Click OK.
