Working with feeds
Syndicated Feed Portlet enables you to integrate, view, and manage RSS and ATOM feeds from your portal pages. You can organize the feeds into new and existing feed categories and extensively customize the presentation style for these feeds.
Working with feed subscriptions
You can add, rename, delete, and view details of your feed subscriptions in the HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet. Additionally, you can move your feeds either within the same or to another feed category.

        Site development with Site Builder

        Administration Portlets
        Administration portlets are only visible to users with adequate access. Members of the wpsadmins group can access Administration. Visitors to your website will not see the administration link.
        Search Center
        The portal search engine helps your site visitors to find information easily. Visitors can search HCL Portal and HCL Web Content Manager sources, along with additional internal and external web search sources that you make available to them. To help your visitors manage searching different information sources, define search collections and scopes.
        Tag Center

        Working with feeds
        Syndicated Feed Portlet enables you to integrate, view, and manage RSS and ATOM feeds from your portal pages. You can organize the feeds into new and existing feed categories and extensively customize the presentation style for these feeds.
        Viewing feeds
        Every feed or channel comprises a number of articles. With appropriate permissions, you can add and select the feeds that you want to view and customize the way the articles of the selected feeds are displayed in the HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet.

        You can add, rename, delete, and view details of your feed subscriptions in the HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet. Additionally, you can move your feeds either within the same or to another feed category.

        After you have added feeds to HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet, you need to enable these feeds so that their articles are displayed in the view mode.

        You can view information related to the feed, such as the feed description, feed URL, and web address of the feed page.
        Setting Private and Shared Credentials
        You can set either private or shared credentials for accessing password-protected feeds. Shared credentials enable all the users of Syndicated Feed Portlet to view the feed without having to enter any credentials. Private credentials enable an individual user to view content from password protected feeds by configuring user ID and password.
        Using the toolbar
        By enabling the toolbar, you can perform all the operations related to feeds and feed categories without leaving the view mode. Thus, you don't need to go to the Personalize, Edit Shared Settings, or the Configure mode to add, select, rename, reorder, re-categorize, and delete the feeds.
        Using the channel bar
        The channel bar displays the name of the feed category and the name of the feed subscription separated by a forward slash (/).
        Working with feed categories
        Feed categories enable you to group and organize your feed subscriptions. You can add new feed categories and rename, delete, and nest the existing feed categories.
        Customizing the appearance
        You can select and customize the presentation style for your feeds.
        Importing and exporting feeds
        You can import multiple feeds into HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet by using an appropriate Outline Processor Markup Language (OPML) URL. Similarly, you can export feeds from HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet to an OPML compliant xml file.
        Configuring the cache settings
        Enable caching for Syndicated Feed Portlet to enhance performance and ensure an enriched user experience. You can enable servlet caching for the user interface of HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet and the WebSphere dynamic cache for the feed data.
        Configuring permissions
        If you are an Administrator or have access to the configure mode of the HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet, you can grant or revoke a non-admin user’s permissions to customize feed subscriptions and appearance of the feeds in the HCL Syndicated Feed Portlet.

  - Backup and restore
    Backup and recovery of data files and databases is an essential operation for any business system, particularly for data and applications that run in production environments. Create and follow a plan for backing up and recovering data on all tiers of your HCL Digital Experience deployment. IBM Installation Manager must also be included in backup and recovery planning. If you back up the HCL Portal file structure and then install a fix pack, your HCL Digital Experience and IBM Installation Manager become out of sync after you restore the HCL Portal file system. This condition is not recoverable.
  - Migrating
    Successful migration requires significant planning and preparation, understanding the tools that are involved, and careful execution of the appropriate steps in the order provided.
  - Integrating
    Integrate HCL Digital Experience with software such as HCL Sametime to enable your users to collaborate more easily. You can also use the unified task list portlet to integrate HCL with your backend business process software, such as IBM Process Server.
  - Administering
    Use the administration tools that are provided with the portal to do various day-to-day administration tasks. There are two methods for editing portal setup: using the administration portlets or the XML configuration interface. The administration portlets are a convenient way to make real-time updates to the portal's configuration. While the XML configuration interface is suited to more advanced administration, including batch processing of updates.
  - Securing
    Security tasks include setting up property extension databases and custom user repositories, configuring and activating SSL, and configuring authentication. In addition, tasks such as activating Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and NIST SP800-131a security modules and configuring external security managers such as Security Access Manager might be required to secure your portal environment.
  - Monitoring
    HCL Portal includes tools and features to help you monitor the portal site.
  - Setting up a website
    Setting up a website includes, creating pages, adding navigation, setting up search, and adding content to the site. Themes are used to customize the portal's look-and-feel. Out-of-the-box templates and the site wizard can help you set up your portal site faster. You can add wikis and blogs to your site and let users tag and rate content on your site.
  - Staging to production
    During portal solution development, the solution is initially developed, tested, and refined on one server or a limited number of servers. The solution is deployed later on live systems, referred to as the production environment. The process of moving the solution from the development environment to the production environment is called staging.

Adding a feed subscription | HCL Digital Experience

Subscribing to a web feed enables you to view the contents of the feed.

Before you begin

About this task

To add a feed subscription:

Procedure

From the portlet menu, select Personalize, Edit Shared Settings, or Configure. The General tab is selected, by default.
On the Subscriptions page, click Add.
Select the Subscription option button.
Enter the feed URL in the given text field.
From the Select a category for the feed drop-down list, select the feed category in which you want to place the new feed subscription.
To view the articles from this feed immediately, enable the Enable this feed immediately check box.
To set the credentials for a feed that requires authentication to the host server, enable the This feed requires authentication check box. Further,
1. Specify the type of authentication required for viewing the contents of the feed. The available options are - HTTP authentication and a Web page with a login form.
2. Specify the relevant user name and password in the text fields.
3. In case you want these credentials to provide authentication support to all the users, select the Shared option button.
To configure additional, advanced options, select the This feed requires additional advanced options check box and enable the following settings, if required:
- Override the default connection timeout - Select the Override the default connection timeout check box and specify the time in milliseconds after which the attempts to connect to the feed server should timeout.
- Override the default blocking read timeout - Select the Override the default blocking read timeout check box and specify the time in milliseconds after which the blocking reads for this feed should timeout.
- Override the default cache control - Select this option to override the default cache control by specifying in the given text field, the name of the HTTP cookies that should be sent from the inbound portal request when connecting to the feed.
Click OK.
