Configuring Android Enterprise

Enable and configure Android Enterprise application management of the HCL Connections for Android application in your environment.

App-specific Configuration

Use App-specific configuration settings to automate the setup of HCL Connections for Android on managed devices.

The configuration settings for the HCL Connections app can be specified using the EMM administration console. Using Android Enterprise terminology, the configuration settings are often referred to as app restrictions. How app restrictions are set varies by EMM provider. Refer to the EMM provider documentation for specific details. Settings can be also configured at the HCL Connections server in the mobile-config.xml. The Android Enterprise settings take precedence when there is a setting in the EMM admin console and received from the HCL Connections server.
Note: It is recommended that all Android Enterprise settings be managed through the EMM and not through the HCL Connections server.

Because HCL Connections allows multiple accounts to be created, a Server URL configuration setting is required for the settings to be applied. The configuration settings are applied to all accounts with the Server specified. To apply settings to HCL SmartCloud accounts, enter cloud as the Server URL value.

Server URL none Enter cloud for HCL SmartCloud servers. Otherwise enter the URL of the HCL Connections™ server that you want to connect to. The HTTPS prefix is not required, but is accepted, for example, greenhouse.lotus.com:443/mobile. The port is not required if it is the default (443). The context root (/mobile) is not required if it is the default (/mobile)
User Name none

Enter the userid that is used to login to the HCL Connections™ server.

Leave this setting empty when using OAuth authentication. It is not possible to specify a user name (or password) in this environment.
Password none

Enter the password corresponding to the userid to login to the HCL Connections™ server.

Leave this setting empty when using OAuth authentication. It is not possible to specify a user name (or password) in this environment.
Restrict to one account false Restrict HCL Connections™ to allow only one account to exist. Users cannot create more accounts.
MAM Key none The MAM key that must align with the MAM signature that is specified in the server configuration. If after the internal algorithm processes the MAM Key it does not match the MAM signature from the server, the user will be blocked from using the app.
MAM Key mismatch timeout 24 The amount of time, in hours, after the MAM signature is changed on the server that app continues to run with a mismatch of the MAM key. After the timeout, if there is still a mismatch, the app usage will be blocked. This is intended to allow the MDM and the server to sync.
Disable Apps none The selected apps are disabled and not be available for use in the HCL Connections™ Mobile Server application.
Note: If the app is not installed or is disabled on the server, it can not be enabled through this policy.
Remove apps from the main navigation none Remove the selected apps from the main navigation of the HCL Connections™ application.
Note: If an app is disabled, it can not be displayed in the main navigation.
Default navigation order updates, profiles, communities, files, downloads, wikis, activities, forums, blogs, bookmarks, favorites The order the HCL Connections™ apps show in the main navigation. If an application is disabled or designated to not show in the main navigation, it is ignored. The default order is updates, profiles, communities, files, downloads, wikis, activities, forums, blogs bookmarks, and favorites.
Allow device location information to be posted true Allow users to attach their location information when they post a status update.
Show email addresses true Enable to show email addresses in profile details.
Default application Updates The default app is the app (Files, Wikis, and so on) theHCL Connections™ Mobile Server application shows at startup.
Remember Password true Set remember password to false to prevent the user's password from being saved in the HCL Connections™ Mobile Server application and disable the user's ability to save the password.
Note: A setting of true enables the user to save the password. It does not immediately save the password.
Inactivity timeout 0 The duration (in minutes) after which the user is required to relogin if no activity is performed in the application. Default value is 0, which causes this setting to be not in effect.
Allow Remove Account false Allow users to remove accounts from the application's account listings without being logged in to the account. Users are always able to remove the account if they are logged in to the account.

Allow External Browser Domains

 false Allows user to open supported http/s URLs in an external browser instead of the embedded browser in the HCL Connections application. Supported URLs are specified by the SupportedExternalBrowserDomains key
Supported External Browser Domain none Allows users to specify domain/subdomain patterns for websites that should use an external browser instead of of the embedded browser within then HCL Connections mobile app. This value is applicable only when AllowExternalBrowserDomains is set to true.

Use a comma to separate multiple domain patterns. This key accepts wildcard subdomains ( * ) and can be specified only in the beginning. This key does not support Regular Expressions.
CustomHelpURL none

Allows to specify custom help option within HCL Connections™ app for logged in users. Once configured and the mobile user logs into their account, this option is available under My Account > Help and Support section in HCL Connections™ app.

The following snippet shows an example of how you can specify CustomHelpURL: <genericProperty name="CustomHelpURL">https://www.hcl.com</genericProperty>

If specified domain/subdomain patterns for URL matches the External Browser Domain configurations, then Custom Help URL should use an external browser instead of the embedded browser within the HCL Connections mobile app.

Note: If the specified url is a deep link or a universal link that is supported by a native application and is installed on user's device, this will open the native application instead of an external browser.
WebView Mixed content mode BrowserCompatibility

This option controls whether mixed content that is, SSL and non-SSL are allowed in a web view. The following values can be entered for this option:

  • AlwaysAllow Mixed content is always allowed.
  • NeverAllow Mixed content is never allowed.
  • BrowserCompatibilityIn this mode, the WebView attempts to be compatible with the approach of a modern web browser in regard to mixed content. The types of content that are allowed or blocked can change from release to release and are not explicitly defined.

If images are not showing in Blog or Wiki posts, change to BrowserCompatibility or AlwaysAllow. But, be aware that allowing mixed content is less secure.
Enable public communities true Enable users to navigate to communities visible to all users.
Allow community add members true Show an action that permits community owners to add members to the owned community from within the HCL Connections™ Mobile Server application.
Allow community forum creation false Allow community editors to create new forums within the community.
Allow community owned folders true Allow folders to be created within communities rather than shared from a user's files library.
Allow profile image upload true Allow users to edit their profile and upload new images that represent them.
Allow profile edit true Allow users to modify their profile fields from the HCL Connections™ Mobile Server application.
Enable public files true Enable users to create and navigate to files that are visible to all users.
Allow files to be shared with everyone true Allow files to be shared with all users.
Allow files to be shared outside of organization. true HCL SmartCloud only. Allow files to be shared with people outside a user's SmartCloud organization
Allow file download true Allow users to download files to the device from within the mobile app.
Allow file upload true Allow users to take and/or choose pictures from the device and upload to the HCL Connections™ server.
Allow file export true Allow files to be opened by apps other thanHCL Connections™. The files are decrypted prior to sending to the other apps.
Allow file export to device gallery true When enabled, the policy to allow export to device gallery, allows files to be added to the mobile device image gallery. An exported image is decrypted.
Allow file import true Allow file import permits files to be selected, and uploaded to the server, from other third-party apps that provide files. If this policy is disabled, taking a photo or video inside the HCL Connections™ application and uploading it is still allowed.
Allow email true Enables mailto tags within Connections content. If this option is disabled, mailto tags will still be visible, but clicking the link will result in a message indicating that email from the Connections Mobile app has been disabled.
Enable public activities true Enable users to navigate to activities that are visible to all users.
Enable public forums true Enable users to navigate to forums that are visible to all users.
Allow forum creation false Allow users to create new forums for discussion within the forums app.
Enable global search true Allow users to search all content across the different apps within HCL Connections™. In addition to titles and descriptions, indexed content (for example, file content) is searched.
Enable public wikis true Enable users to navigate to wikis that are visible to all users.
Enable public blogs true Enable users to navigate to blogs that are visible to all users.
Enable public bookmarks true Enable users to navigate to bookmarks that are visible to all users.
Theme color none The primary color that is used for the main theme areas of the mobile app (for example, the title bar, status areas, buttons and so on). This policy is specified as a six-character string that represents the hex color code. For example, 00ff00 represents a green color setting. When not specified, the theme color that is shipped with the app is used.
Foreground color none The foreground color is used for icons and text that are displayed in areas that use the ThemeColor as a background color. This policy is specified as a six-character string that represents the hex color code. For example, ffd700 represents a gold color setting. When not specified the foreground color that shipped with the app is used.
Location reporting url none The URL the HCL Connections™ Mobile Server application invokes to report location details. The body is JSON and includes userName, userId, userLat for latitude, and userLong for longitude. If the URL is empty, geolocation reporting is disabled.
Location reporting type distance Defines whether location information is reported based on a change in time, in minutes, or distance, in feet.
Location reporting frequency 0 Define the distance change, in feet, or time change, in minutes, that location information is reported to the server. The value is in distance or time based on the location reporting type.
Problem report email heyhcl@pnp-hcl.com Enter the email address to use for reporting problems and feedback from the Connections Mobile app. If you do not specify an email address, it dafults to heyhcl@pnp-hcl.com.
Security - Terms of usage url none The URL to load during authentication with the HCL Connections™ server. The URL displays the terms of usage of the environment. The user is presented with options to accept the terms or reject the terms. If rejected, the user can not proceed to authenticate with the server.
Security - Prompt for terms of usage on every login true Specifies whether the terms of usage page is shown every time the user logs in. Setting this policy to false prevents the page from being shown on every login attempt when the user has accepted the terms of usage the first time.
Allow editing using HCL Connections Editor app true Allows a mobile user to edit Connections files using the HCL Connections Editor mobile app.
