Sharing a status message with the community

Enter a status message on the Status Updates page to keep members up-to-date on what is happening in the community.

Before you begin

You can share your status if the status updates feature is available in your deployment and if a community owner allows it.

About this task

Keep people in the community up-to-date by frequently posting a status to the Status Updates page for the community. This message displays in the Status Updates page, but it does not display in your profile or the home page.

Procedure

To update your status message for your community, complete the following steps.
  1. From any view in your community, click Status Updates in the community navigation.
  2. Enter your status message in the text box.
When you include URLs in your status updates, they are automatically converted to hyperlinks.
  3. Optional: To tag your message with a specific keyword, prefix the keyword with a hash (#) symbol as part of your message. When you save the message, the keyword is automatically converted to a link. Other people in your community can click the link to search for content that is tagged with the same keyword.
  4. Optional: To @mention a colleague in your status update and share the update directly with them, enter the at (@) symbol followed by the person's name, and then select the person's name from the drop-down list. When you post the update, a notification email is sent to the person, and a message is also posted to their profile to let them know that you mentioned them.
Note: If your community is private and the person is not a member, they do not receive any notification about your message.
Note: Guest users cannot @mention users that are outside the community where the guest is a member or owner.
  5. Optional: If you want to include a file in your status, click Add a File.
  6. Click Post.
