Communities apps

As a community owner, you can add apps to your community to make different types of functions available to members.

Overview

The following Connections apps are available to add to communities.
Notes:
  • To add an app to your community, it must be installed in your deployment.
  • For the apps to load properly in Microsoft™ Internet Explorer, ActiveX Controls must be enabled on the Security tab. To access the Security tab, select Tools > Internet Options > Security.

App Description
Activities Allows community owners to create activities for sharing resources, assigning tasks, and organizing meetings with community members. A community can have multiple activities.

This app is optional.

Blog Creates a blog for the use of community members. A community can have one blog only.

This app is optional.

Bookmarks Enables community members to post relevant bookmarks to the community.

This app is added to every community by default, but it can be removed if it is not needed.

Chat Rooms Allows community owners to create chat rooms, where community members can chat, enter, and leave, and see what was discussed in their absence. A community can have multiple chat rooms.

This app is optional and can be downloaded from IBM® Greenhouse.

Events Use this app to schedule community events and share information about them.

This app is optional.

Feeds Enables community members to subscribe to feeds that are of interest to the community, directly from the community.

This app is optional.

Files Allows community members to upload and share files and folders.

This app is added to every community by default, but it can be removed if it is not needed.

Forums Enables community owners to create forums where members can ask questions and discuss topics that are relevant to the community.

This app is added to every community by default, but it can be removed if it is not needed.

Ideation Blog Creates a central blog space where members can post ideas and vote on other people's ideas.

This app is optional.

Library Creates a community library where members can upload and collaborate on documents.

This app is optional.

Linked Library Links from a community to an existing document repository on an Enterprise Content Management server, allowing members to upload and collaborate on documents in the linked repository.

This app is optional.

Gallery Allows community members to showcase community files. The gallery supports many file types, for example: images, videos, and office files.

This app is optional.

Meeting Rooms Allows community owners to create meeting rooms, where community members can meet, discuss, and share files or their screen. A community can have multiple meeting rooms.

This app is optional and can be downloaded from IBM Greenhouse.

Members Displays the existing membership of the community.

This app is added to every community by default and it cannot be removed.

Recent Updates Use this app to keep up-to-date on news stories and status updates on your community.

This app is added to every community by default, and it cannot be removed.

Related Communities Use this app to link to other communities that might be doing work of interest to your community.

This app is optional.

Rich Content Use this app to create rich content; including text, links, images, and more.

This app is optional.

SharePoint Allows community members to access and manage files that are stored in Microsoft SharePoint directly from the community.

This app is optional and can be downloaded from the IBM Lotus® and WebSphere® Portal Business Solutions Catalog.

Status Updates Use this app to post messages to your community and view posts by community members.

This app is added to every new community by default, and it can be removed if it is not needed.

Subcommunities Allows members to see the subcommunities that are contained in the parent community and navigate easily to them.

This app is optional.

Wiki Creates a community wiki where community members can share information and resources with fellow members, and collaborate on projects.

This app is optional.
