In some cases, you must install the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities before you create or modify a WebSphere Commerce instance with Configuration Manager.

Usually, users will run the client on WebSphere Commerce server machine, since that is where it is installed. Ensure that the machine you will be using to install the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities code has 150 MB of free space available on the drive where you want to install the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities code. You begin the installation using the WebSphere Commerce DVD. At some point, you will be prompted to insert the WebSphere Application Server DVD to copy the migration utilities. Then you will be prompted to reinsert the WebSphere Commerce DVD to continue the installation.

Procedure

  1. Start the WebSphere Commerce launchpad:
    • SolarisLinuxAIXmount_point/setup.sh

      Where: mount_point is the DVD mount point or the location of the WebSphere Commerce image. When referring to the mount_point, always use the symbolic path to the location such as /dvdrom/dvdrom0. In the case of the DVD, this can vary depending on how many DVD-ROM drives you have and which one you are using. If you receive a permission denied message after issuing this command, ensure that the command has execute permissions and run the command again.

      Note: When launching setup.sh, ensure that the current directory is not mount_point, otherwise your DVD drive could be locked when you need to change media. This applies to eImages as well. See Working with WebSphere Commerce physical media for more information.
    • For IBM i OS operating systemWindowsDepending on the location of your WebSphere Commerce DVD images, complete one of the following steps:
      • Insert the WebSphere Commerce DVD into the DVD drive. The WebSphere Commerce installation wizard starts automatically.

        Depending on your Windows system, the launchpad can take 3 minutes or longer to start.

      • If the launchpad does not start after you insert the DVD:
        1. In Windows Explorer, browse the DVD drive containing the WebSphere Commerce DVD.
        2. Double-click autorun.exe.
  2. The WebSphere Commerce launchpad starts. Select the language for the launchpad and click OK to continue.
    When the launchpad displays, it provides the following options:
    • Prerequisites
    • Documentation
    • Install Product
    • For IBM i OS operating systemInstall Product on IBM i
    • Support Assistant
    • Exit
    Click Install Product to continue.
    SolarisLinuxAIXWindowsNote: If you do not want to install the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities using the launchpad, or if the launchpad does not start, you will need to launch the installer manually.

      • mount_point/setup_aix

      • LinuxLinux on xSeries: mount_point/setup_linux

      where mount_point is the DVD-ROM mount point. For example, /mnt/dvdrom0.

    • WindowsFrom a command prompt, enter: drive:\setup.exe

      where drive is the drive letter of the DVD-ROM containing the WebSphere Commerce DVD.

  3. Select the language and click OK to continue.
    The Welcome screen is displayed. Click Next.
  4. Read the license agreement. If you accept the terms of the agreement, select that you accept the terms and click Next.
    Note: The Installation prerequisite warning screen may display. Review the information about the screen. If a memory size warning is reported, click Next to continue.
  5. Choose Custom Installation and click Next. A warning message may display indicating that a previous version of WebSphere Commerce is installed. Click Yes to proceed with the installation. Click No to cancel.
  6. Select Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities and click Next.
  7. You can choose to select the default destination path or select Browse for another destination path. A new directory can be specified, and the installation wizard will create that directory for you. Once you have selected your destination path, click Next to continue.
    Note: The directory where the Configuration Manager Client code is installed will be denoted by: WC_rmtMgt_installdir.
  8. If you want to create a WebSphere Commerce response file based on your custom install options, select the Create a response file check box and specify a filename and location. Select Next.
  9. Confirm your installation choices.

    To start the installation, click Next.

    To modify your choices, click Back.

    After you click Next, the installation begins. The window displays the progression of the installation.

  10. Insert the WebSphere Application Server DVDs as prompted and, if required, enter the location of the DVDs.
  11. On the Installation Complete panel, click Finish. The installation is complete and the wizard closes.

What to do next

To verify that the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities are installed properly on your Windows machine, refer to the following log file:

is the installation directory for the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities.
