Create bootstrap entries for the directory server

You might customize names to match your own settings. For example, you can use "dc=ibm,dc=com" instead of "o=root organization" and "cn=users,dc=ibm,dc=com" instead of "o=default organization, o=root organization".

Procedure

For IBM i OS operating systemComplete the following steps on the IBM i Directory Services machine:
  1. Start the Directory Management Tool.
    1. Issue the following command from an IBM i command line: STRTCPSVR *DIRSRV
    2. Complete the following steps from a Windows machine:
      1. Start the IBM Directory Server, Directory Management Tool.
      2. Click Add Server and specify the host name of the machine that IBM i Directory Services is installed.
      3. Select Simple as the Authentication type.
      4. Specify the user DN and password.
      5. Click OK.
  2. Click Add Server.
  3. Specify the user DN and password. Click OK.
    You might encounter a "There is data for o=root organization." error. This error can be safely ignored.
  4. Select ldap:// host_name:389 and click the Add button.
    Where host_name is the fully qualified host name of machine that is running IBM i Directory Services.
  5. Select Organization in the Entry Type field.
    1. In the RDN field, enter o=root organization and click OK.
    2. Click Add to apply the changes.
    3. Select o=root organization and click the Add button.
  6. Select Organization in the Entry Type field.
    1. In the ParentDN field, enter o=root organization.
    2. In the EntryDN field, enter o=default organization and click OK.
    3. Click Add to apply the changes.
    4. Select o=root organization and click the Add button.
  7. The directory tree should refresh to reflect the changes. If it does not automatically update, refresh the directory tree manually.
