Configuring the display source for statistical counters

Specify the server from which you want to display marketing statistics to business users of WebSphere Commerce Accelerator.

About this task

Marketing Events statistics are tabulated by counters in a database. These counters are located in the WebSphere Commerce database on the production machine, but the data can be copied to a staging server. Campaign and Product Advisor statistics are always collected on the production machine, but you can configure the location of the database used to display the statistics. If WebSphere Commerce Accelerator is on a staging server that does not have Internet or Intranet access, and you want to see the statistics, you must copy the statistics from the production server to the staging server. In this case, you must configure the staging server as the display source for the statistics using the Configuration Manager.

Procedure

  1. Open the WebSphere Commerce master configuration file on the staging server.
  2. In that file, find the BusinessIntelligence element.
  3. Update the StatisticsSource attribute value to the host name of the machine from which you want to serve campaign statistics.
By default, this is the machine where the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator is located. You can enter either the host name of the production server, or of a development server if you do not have access to the production server through either the Internet or your Intranet. If you enter the host name of a development server, you will have to export the statistics from the production server to the specified development server prior to viewing the statistics. Furthermore if the machine from which you want to serve statistics is different than the machine where you originally log in, you should add the port number to the host name.
  4. Make the same update to the following file: WC_eardir/xml/config/wc-server.xml.
That is, update the StatisticsSource attribute of the BusinessIntelligence element in this file.
  5. Stop and restart your WebSphere Commerce instance.

Results

This host name will be used when business users click any Statistics selections in WebSphere Commerce Accelerator.

What to do next

To view the remote statistics using Microsoft Internet Explorer, make sure the browser's privacy setting is low. This allows the browser to accept the third-party cookies from the production server.
