Installing VersionVault WAN server

Install VersionVault WAN server to provide support for VersionVault web views.

Before you begin

You must install and configure a stand-alone implementation of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server and IBM® HTTP Server before you install VersionVault WAN server. See Prepare the WebSphere Application Server environment for HCL VersionVault web servers.

During the VersionVault WAN server installation process, you can deploy the VersionVault WAN server to a new or existing WebSphere Application Server profile. For information about selecting the profile, see WebSphere Application Server profiles for web feature deployment.

About this task

You can install silently from a response file or by installing IBM Installation Manager locally and configuring the repository locations for the VersionVault installation files. For more information, see Enterprise software installation strategies.

Procedure

  1. On the Installation Manager Start page, click Install.
  2. Optional: If you want to install the latest fix pack, select Show all versions. Then, click Check for Other Versions, Fixes, or Extensions to retrieve any updates available in IBM service repositories.
  3. On the Install page, under the HCL VersionVault product package, select the version that you want to install. Then, click Next.
  4. On the Licenses page, review the license terms. Then, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next.
  5. On the Location page, type the path for the shared resources directory in the Shared Resources Directory field or accept the default path. Click Next.
  6. Select the translation to install, then click Next.
  7. On the Features page, select the applicable features.
    1. On Windows:
      • Dynamic Views
      • Local Views and VOB
      • VOB Server (if applicable)
      • View Server (required for VersionVault WAN server)
      • VersionVault WAN server (required for HCL VersionVault Explorer)
    2. On UNIX/Linux:
      • VersionVault Full Functional Installation
      • VersionVault WAN server
  8. On the VersionVault WAS Selection page, click the Select Profile Deployment Type drop-down list and choose one of the following options:
    1. Create a new Web Application Server profile:
      1. For the WebSphere Application Server home directory, type or browse to was_install_dir.
      2. Accept the default path for a New application server profile location or type or browse to a different location.
      3. The value of WebSphere Application Server Version that created that profile is set automatically.
      4. Click Next.
      This is the default installation option. When selected, the VersionVault WAN server is deployed into the default profile ccrcprofile.
    2. Use an existing Web Application Server profile:
      1. Type or browse to the path for the Application server profile location.
      2. The value of WebSphere Application Server Version that created that profile is set automatically.
      3. Start the WebSphere Application Server for the profile:
        • On Windows: Start > Programs > IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Vx.x > Profiles > profile > Start the server or was_profiles_dir\profile\bin\startServer.bat server1
        • On UNIX/Linux: /was_profiles_dir/profile/bin/startServer.sh server1
      4. Click Get List From Server. Wait for the installer to fetch the list of servers and clusters. Select a server from the list and click Next.
  9. Complete the rest of the installation, providing configuration information when prompted.
  10. After completing the installation on Linux and UNIX systems, start the WebSphere Application Server profile where you installed the VersionVault WAN server.
    If you installed in a new profile, start the ccrcprofile profile. If you installed into an existing profile, start the profile specified in step 8. See Quick reference for managing profiles, IBM WebSphere Application Server, and IBM HTTP Server
  11. To connect to the VersionVault WAN server from a browser, go to http://server:port/ccrc.
    The value of port is 16080 for the new profile. To verify the correct port number, see the value that is specified in the following file: ccrc_profile_dir/logs/AboutThisProfile.txt.
