About database lock manager parameters

On UNIX systems and Linux, database access to each VOB is cooperatively controlled by all processes (that is, instances of db_server and db_server) that access the VOB. On Windows VOB server hosts, a single lock manager process controls database access for every VOB on the host. The values of database lock parameters are read by these processes when they start.

Regardless of how locking is managed, locking behavior is controlled by similar parameters. Their default values have been selected to deliver good performance under a wide range of loads. However, you may need to change some of the values on hosts that support many VOBs or VOBs that have many users.
