Guided Activity: Install Sametime Community Server

This guided activity takes you through the steps of creating a deployment plan, which collects information that pre-populates installation screens for IBM® Sametime® Community Server.

Before you begin

If you are using this guided activity to install Sametime 8.5.2, you must follow the version 8.5.2 documentation in the Sametime wiki to ensure that the instructions are correct for your deployment.

If you will install the Sametime Community Server using a deployment plan, the following servers must be installed and running before you create the deployment plan with this guided activity:

  • LDAP server
  • IBM Domino® server, hosted on the computer where you will install the Sametime Community Server
Tip: Find the most up-to-date help, and translated versions of the help, in the product documentation published on IBM Knowledge Center.

About this task

Follow these steps to create a deployment plan on the Sametime System Console. The deployment plan stores configuration settings that are used when you run the installation program for Sametime Community Server.

Procedure

  1. Plan a product installation.

In the Install Sametime Community Server guided activity, click Create a New Deployment Plan, and then click Next.

  2. Deployment Name.

Type a name for the deployment plan, and then click Next. The name should be unique and descriptive. It is helpful to include the product, such as stCommSvr. The name can be up to 256 characters in length, is not case sensitive, and can include special characters as well as spaces.

  3. Deployment Product Version Selection.

Select the product version that you want to install, and then click Next.

  4. Connect to Domino Server.

Provide information for connecting to the Domino server, and then click Next:

    1. In the Host Name field, type the fully qualified host name of the Domino server that will host the new Sametime Community Server.
    2. In the Port field, leave the default value (80) unless you are using another port for the Domino HTTP server.
    3. In the Domino User ID field, type the existing Domino administrator's user name.

Use the common-name portion of the ID as in Thomas Watson, not the full hierarchical name that includes slashes. The Sametime System Console validates the administrator credentials before proceeding.

    4. In the Password field, type the password associated with the Domino administrator account.
  5. Connect to an LDAP Server.

Select the LDAP server that is used by your Sametime deployment, and then click Next.

  6. HTTP Tunneling.

To allow Sametime clients to make HTTP-tunneled Connections on port 80 to a server with a single IP address, click Enable HTTP Tunneling, and then click Next.

Selecting this feature increases the possibility that users in restrictive network environments can exchange data in chats on a community server that is extended to the Internet.

  7. Deployment Summary.

Review the summary page, and then click Finish.

The deployment plan is ready to be used for the server installation.
