Migrating from Sametime Version 8.5.2 IFR1 or Version 8.5.2

Migrate from IBM® Sametime® 8.5.2x by deploying Sametime 9.0.1 on separate computers, migrating environment settings and user data, and then redirecting users to the new deployment.

About this task

In Sametime 8.5.2 and Sametime 8.5.2 Interim Feature Release 1, many servers run on IBM WebSphere® Application Server 7; Sametime 9 uses WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5. Due to changes in the WebSphere Application Server architecture, it is not possible to perform an in-place upgrade of the Sametime servers. Instead, deploy Sametime 9.0.1 separately so that users can continue working in Sametime 8.5.2x while you migrate data and recreate environment settings and product customizations. When the Sametime 9.0.1 deployment is ready for production use, you can redirect clients to Sametime 9.0.1 and shut down the Sametime 8.5.2x deployment.

For best results, use separate computers to host Sametime 9.0.1 servers. Deploying separate computers prevents port conflicts, reduces resource requirements on each server, and allows you to maintain the Sametime 8.5.2x servers as backups in case you encounter problems with the Sametime 9 deployment.

Note: Instructions for upgrading to Sametime 9.0.1 reference an IBM technote that includes down loadable scripts. The technote and scripts were developed for V9.0 but also work with V9.0.1.
