Improving PDF document conversion on Windows and Linux

You can improve the quality of PDF document conversion by using the Ghostscript PostScript™ and PDF interpreter/renderer application. To use Ghostscript conversion, you must modify two configuration settings in the Sametime® System Console. Ghostscript conversion is supported on Windows™ and Linux™ only; it is not supported on zLinux.

About this task

For Ghostscript download information, see the Ghostscript web site at www.Ghostscript.com.

Procedure

  1. On the Conversion Server, log in as root (Linux) or as the system administrator (Windows).
  2. Download the Ghostscript Postscript and PDF interpreter/renderer.
  3. Install the interpreter/renderer by running the file that you downloaded.
  4. Log in to the Integrated Solutions Console.
  5. Click Sametime System Console > Sametime Servers > Sametime Meeting Server.
  6. In the Sametime Meeting Servers list, click the name of the meeting server that has the document conversion role. This might be the base Sametime Meeting Server, or a remote server that has been configured for document conversion.
  7. Click the Server Configuration tab, and then click Edit.
  8. Change the value of the configuration key docshare.pdf.ghostscript to true.
  9. Complete one of these steps according to whether you are using a 32 bit or 64 bit environment:
    1. For the configuration key docshare.pdf.ghostscript.path, in a 32 bit environment enter the directory path for the gswin32c directory (Windows) or the gs directory (Linux). Alternatively, you can use the default path:
      Linux
      /usr/bin/gs
      Windows
      C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.04\bin\gswin32c
    2. For the configuration key docshare.pdf.ghostscript.path in a 64 bit environment enter the directory path for the gswin64c directory, use this path:
      Windows
      C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.16\bin\gswin64c.exe
  10. Click Apply.
Note: You do not have to restart the server, but you might need to wait a few minutes before uploading an improved PDF document to the meeting room.
