Setting up a distinct virtual host for a Sametime Meeting Server or cluster

Configure a virtual host on the Sametime® Meeting Server to avoid conflicts with other Sametime applications

About this task

Custom virtual hosts may be reset back to the default settings when the Sametime application is updated or patched. For best results, document the virtual hosts prior to any upgrade. Verify custom virtual host settings and reset them if needed after upgrading.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the WebSphere® Integrated System Console as the administrator.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Environment > Virtual Hosts, and then click New.
  3. Give the new virtual host a name, such as stmeetings_host for example, and then click Apply.
  4. Click Save in the "Messages" box that displays at the beginning of the page.
  5. In the Additional Properties section, click Host Aliases.
  6. Click New to create one or more new host alias entries. Host aliases should be created for every host name and port used to access the Meeting Server or cluster.
  7. Create the port entries for each of the specific node host names and load balancer address (if used)
    • Meeting room servers and the ports they listen on: WC_defaulthost and WC_defaulthost_secure
    • WebSphere Proxies and the ports they listen on: Proxy_http_address and Proxy_https_address
    • Meeting Server load balancer and ports
Note: If your Meeting Server also has the Capture Server role, you must also specify the SIP_Defaulthost and SIP_Defaulthost_Secure ports.
  8. When you have added all host aliases, click Save in the "Messages" box that displays at the beginning of the page.
  9. Make sure there are no conflicting default_host entries for a port:
    1. In the navigation pane, click Environment > Virtual hosts.
    2. In the list of virtual hosts, click default_host.
    3. In the Additional Properties section, click Host Aliases.
    4. Remove all aliases that map to the fully qualified host names and ports you just added to the stmeetings_host.

When you are done, there should be no duplication for any "hostname:port" combination in the default_host virtual host and the newly created stmeetings_host virtual host.

  10. Remap the virtual host for the Sametime Meeting Server applications.
    1. Return to the navigation pane and click Applications > WebSphere Enterprise Applications > Sametime Meeting Server.
    2. On the Configuration page, click Virtual hosts in the Web Module Properties section.
    3. In the Virtual host column, change each of the available choices from default_host to the name you defined in Step 3 (stmeetings_host in this example).
    4. Return to the navigation pane and click Applications > WebSphere Enterprise Applications > Meeting Server Administration.
    5. In the Virtual host column, change each of the available choices from default_host to the name you defined in Step 3 (stmeetings_host in this example).
  11. Resynchronize all nodes in the cluster by completing the procedure Synchronizing and restarting nodes in the cluster.
