Configuring a third-party SIP endpoint for Sametime calls

Configure your third-party SIP endpoint to route SIP trunking (SIP-based calls) to and from IBM® Sametime® users.

About this task

Configure the SIP endpoint to enable SIP trunking functionality and route outgoing calls to the Sametime SIP Proxy/Registrar, using the dial string you assigned to Sametime in Mapping dial strings to SIP endpoints and the port you determined in Determining the ports used by the Sametime Media Manager components (typically, port 5080 or port 5081). The third-party SIP endpoint must use the same transport protocol that Sametime uses (either TCP or TLS).

The steps to configure the connection vary with the product; consult your vendor documentation for more information. For an example, see section 8 in the Sametime Unified Telephony Lite Client: Zero to Hero guide, which includes detailed steps for configuring a connection with the Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

Note: Because SIP trunking is now integrated into Sametime, the feature's name has changed to reflect that it is no longer a separate product.
