Verifying the SIP trunking configuration

Test the SIP trunking configuration and verify that you can make calls between IBM Sametime® clients and the third-party phones or devices.

About this task

When testing, it is always a good idea to run a packet analyzer such as Wireshark on the computer hosting the Sametime SIP Proxy/Registrar to ensure that SIP traffic is routing as expected.

Test the example configuration by placing calls between the Sametime client and a third-party end-user device (such as a desk phone) as follows:

Procedure

  1. Set up the packet analyzer on the computer hosting the Sametime SIP Proxy/Registrar component.
  2. Set the analyzer to detect SIP or RTP packets.
  3. Start a call from the Sametime client to a valid telephone number, and verify the outbound route.
  4. Start a call from the third-party device to the Sametime client, to verify the inbound route.

What to do next

When you are sure that the connections work properly, proceed to Enabling TLS encryption for SIP trunking to encrypt communications.
