Joining a Sametime meeting

This section discusses the steps on how to join the two types of meetings.

About instant meetings

Anyone with the meeting link can join. In an instant meeting, there are no moderators and all users have the following capabilities.

  • Chat with other meeting participants
  • Raise or lower hands
  • Mute or unmute audio
  • Enable or disable camera
  • Share screen
  • Leave the meeting
  • Toggle meeting views and view participants
  • View or change selected user settings

Additionally, authenticated users have the following capabilities. For more information, refer to the Using Sametime Meetings section.

  • Chat through the embedded or standalone Sametime client
  • Record a meeting
  • Start a YouTube live stream
  • End the meeting
  • Control all other users
    • Lower hands
    • Mute all
    • Disable cameras
    • Kick out participants

About moderated meetings

This type of meeting limits control to the owner or designated moderators. For more information on the basic features, refer to Using Sametime Meetings. To use all the meeting features, try Signing in to Sametime. Depending on the access level and how the meeting is configured, you are either redirected to the waiting room or are admitted to the meeting after joining. For more information, refer to Joining a moderated meeting. If you are unable to join a meeting, contact the moderator for assistance.
