Sametime Prerequisite: Connect to DB2 Databases

Connect the IBM® Sametime® System Console to the IBM DB2® database that you created for one of the following servers: Sametime Proxy Server, Advanced Server, Meeting Server, or Gateway server. You must complete this task before attempting to install a server using a deployment plan, or before registering an independently installed server with the System Console. You can also use this guided activity to modify or delete existing database connections.

Before you begin

The following servers must be installed and running:
  • DB2 server
  • If you have already installed the Sametime Proxy Server, Advanced Server, Meeting Server, or Gateway server, it must be running when you begin this guided activity.
If you have not installed the server yet, complete this guided activity and then use the appropriate installation guided activity to install the server.
Note: The Gateway server does not use a guided activity for installation, so you must install it before running this activity to connect it to its DB2 database.
In addition, the database you will connect to must already have been prepared on the DB2 server. On IBM AIX®®, Linux™, or Microsoft™ Windows™, this requires you to create the database; on IBM i, this requires you to create the schema and tables for the database.

About this task

This guided activity connects the Sametime System Console to a specified database on the DB2 server, so that the System Console can manage communications between Sametime servers and the DB2 server. You must complete this task before attempting to install a server using a deployment plan. If you install the Sametime server without a deployment plan, complete this activity before registering the server with the System Console.

Procedure

  1. Connect to DB2 Databases.

In the Connect to DB2 Databases prerequisite activity, click Add to create a connection to a database.

  2. Add a new database.

Provide information about the database, and then click Next:

    1. In the Host name field, type the fully qualified host name of the DB2 server where the database resides (do not enter an IP address or a short host name).
    2. In the Port field, type the port on which the DB2 server is listening (typically port 50000).

On Linux, you can look up the DB2 port in the /etc/services file. On Microsoft Windows, you can look up the DB2 port in the DB2 command console by right-clicking an instance of the local server and clicking Setup Communications > Properties.

    3. In the Database name field, type the name of the database you want to connect to.
    4. In the Application user ID field, type the user name of the DB2 administrator account that you created when you installed the DB2 server.

This account has database administration authority and you will use it whenever you work with DB2 databases for Sametime.

On IBM i, this is the user profile that you logged in with when you created the database schemas.

    5. In the Application password field, type the password for the DB2 administrator.
    6. If you are connecting to a database on IBM i, click Hosted on IBM i.
    7. Click Finish.
