Preregistering for SIP calls

Before making a SIP call from the IBM® Sametime® Connect or Embedded client, you might be required to preregister with your company's SIP PBX.

About this task

Your company might require you to preregister for SIP calls by completing the SIP Phone settings in Sametime.

Procedure

  1. Start the Sametime Connect or Sametime Embedded client.
  2. Open the Preferences dialog box and click SIP Phone.
  3. Provide the information described in Table 1.

    Field Description
    Use SIP Proxy Select this option if the third-party SIP server is hosted in a different Internet domain from you (your domain is the part of your email address that follows the @ character).
    SIP Proxy Type the host name (or IP address), port number, and transport protocol used by the third-party SIP server using the following format:
    sipProxy=host_or_IP:port;transport=transport_protocol
    Domain Type the name of the Internet domain associated with your user ID; for example, renovations.com.
    Display Name Type that you want to display to the person you are calling.
    Authorization Name Type the user name that you use when logging in to your desk phone; if you do not log in to a desk phone, ask your administrator what value to use.
    Password Type the password that you user when logging in to your desk phone; if you do not log in to a desk phone, ask your administrator what value to use.
  4. Click Register to store your settings.
  5. Click OK.
    Now you can place audio or video calls through third-party SIP server by clicking Call or Video Call in the following locations within your client: contacts list, quick search field, call history page, or phone book.
