Assigning administrative level of authority and access

The view an admin sees of the SafeLinx Administrator is controlled by the level of access that is assigned to that ID.

There are three categories of administrative access:
Default SafeLinx Server Administrator
The Default SafeLinx Server Administrator is a pre-configured admin (admin) who can edit access manager properties and has All access control to all other resources in all organizational units. The default admin is able to create other admin IDs and ACL profiles. The access type for admin is limited to Super user. Access control lists are not valid for this account. This account cannot be expired.
Super user
A Super user is an admin who, except for access manager, has All access control to all resources in all organization units. A super user admin is able to create other admin IDs and ACL profiles.
Access Control List
An Access Control List admin is an admin who is assigned an access control list (ACL) profile that is set up by the default admin or by a super user admin. An ACL profile is a collection of ACLs that defines the level of access to resources. An admin with an ACL profile assigned is not able to view other admin IDs and ACL profiles, other than their own.

When administrators log in to the SafeLinx Administrator, resources they can access are in the Resources tab and tasks appropriate to them are in the Tasks tab.

Resources are created under a primary organizational unit (OU) and can optionally be associated with one or more additional OUs. The only resource that cannot be associated with an additional OU is another OU. An admin's primary OU has nothing to do with an admin's access to resources, which is based entirely on the level of access that is assigned from the ACL profile to the admin.

When you create an admin ID, you either define the admin as a Super user or assign an ACL profile that defines the access for each resource type. If you are going to assign an ACL profile to an admin ID, create the profile first.

To add an ACL profile, right-click the OU in which you want to add the profile, then click Add resource > ACL profile. Follow the wizard instructions to name and describe the profile, and select the organizational unit to which it belongs. After the ACL profile wizard is complete, you are prompted to add ACLs to the profile. Follow the wizard instructions to add an ACL for each organizational unit to which the admin ID needs access.

Now assign the ACL profile to the admin ID. Select the admin ID, then click Properties. Click the Access type tab, then click Access control list. Select the ACL profile from the list, then click OK or Apply.

To view the level of access of the admin currently logged in to the SafeLinx Administrator, click File > Access Control Lists.
