Managing encryption status of multiple databases from the Files tab

Use the Files tab in Domino® Administrator to see and manage encryption settings for multiple databases.

Starting with Domino v14.0, you can see the encryption state for all databases, as well as change encryption settings for multiple databases right from the Files tab.

Viewing encryption states and strengths

  1. Add the "Encrypt State" and "Encrypt Strength" columns to the files pane by following the steps in Customizing the columns in the Files tab.
  2. From the Domino® Administrator, click the Files tab.
  3. In the files pane, you can view state and strength data for all databases.

    Encryption State Description
    Empty Database is not encrypted or decrypted.
    Encrypted Database is encrypted.
    Queued for encryption Database will be encrypted on next compact.
    Queued for decryption Database is already encrypted and will be decrypted on next compact.
  4. To see the current encryption strength for each database, use the Encrypt Strength column.
    Note: The current value for a given database might differ from what is displayed in the Database Properties box, which could've been modified for the next compact.

Changing encryption settings for multiple databases

  1. From the Domino® Administrator, click the Files tab.
  2. In the files pane, select the databases that you want to encrypt.
  3. Right-click and select Encrypt.
  4. Select Encrypt database(s) using
    You will see one of the following displayed beside this option:
    • When you're connected to a server, the server name is displayed.
    • If you're connected to Local, the user name for the current logged-in user is displayed.
  5. Select Use Notes Certificate.
  6. Select an encryption strength from the drop-down list.
  7. Click OK
Results:
Unlike with single-database encryption, with multiple-database encryption the preceding steps change only the encryption settings. Actual encryption or decryption occurs later when the administrator runs compact.
